Having recently wrapped up a successful year with the release of his critically-acclaimed Chromakopia album in late October, Tyler, The Creator now has more praise coming his way, this time from proto-punk veteran Iggy Pop. In his raspy voice, Pop recalled how he and Tyler had previously worked together on an ad campaign for Gucci alongside A$AP Rocky. “I’ve always liked Tyler,” Pop began. “I did a day’s work with him once, and he would do what it takes to get attention. He’s also a genuine all-around song, dance, writer talent — a genuine old-school talent with a new-school approach.” The pair’s previous collaboration came about in February 2020, with Gucci seeing them team up with A$AP Rocky to promote their menswear collection which served as an ode to the archetypical rockstar. “Male elegance can be unpredictable and strange,” Gucci’s Creative Director Alessandro Michele told Forbes of the campaign’s idea. “The result is a group campaign with three men who I believe had fun too. “There is always this image of eccentricity, because they are in fact eccentric themselves,” he continued. “A certain type of fun is also portrayed and the idea of how one’s obsession with appearances can create a kind of common ground that can become a sort of brotherhood. It was beautiful to see these three men together, seemingly different but very similar.” Pop’s description of Tyler – “a genuine old-school talent with a new-school approach” – seems to be apt, with the younger musician recently seeing some of his biggest successes to date with the release of the soul, jazz, and hip-hop blending Chromakopia. An Australian construction company has issued an apology following the demolition of a Sydney home that once housed future AC/DC members Angus and Malcolm Young. The house, which had been located at 4 Burleigh Street in the Western Sydney suburb of Burwood, was reportedly razed in late 2024 following a sale in February 2023 for AUD $5.8 million. It was here that a teenaged George Young met his future musical collaborator, Dutch migrant Harry Vanda. Together, they would form The Easybeats in late 1964, with their signature song “Friday on My Mind” being regarded as one of Australia’s most enduring working class anthems. Released in 1966, the track would reach No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 in early 1967. The pair’s wildly-successful Vanda & Young partnership would also result in writing “Love is in The Air”, which reached No. 7 on the Hot 100 after being recorded by the unrelated John Paul Young in 1977. The Young family moved to the Burleigh Street address in 1965 after time spent at other houses in the suburb, with brothers Angus and Malcolm honing their musical talents while living there. In 1973, the pair would co-found AC/DC, who have since become one of Australia’s most successful rock exports of all time. George would also play in the group’s early lineups, eventually taking on production duties for their first records alongside Vanda. The legacy and importance of the address to the Sydney community had been recognized numerous times over the years. In 2013, the house was listed on the National Trust Register of Historic Houses, and in 2024 the local Burwood Council commissioned a mural of Angus and Malcolm by artist Claire Foxton which is still visible on the side of 12 Burleigh Street. News broke of the house’s demolition in late December, with outrage from both fans and the local community reaching the Burwood Council, who defended the demolition despite the presence of the address on the National Trust. “As it is not heritage listed or protected under local or state legislation, and because The National Trust is a community-based, non-government organisation, with no statutory authority, the property does not have enforceable protections,” the Council stated. “Burwood Council remains committed to finding new ways to celebrate the Young family and the area’s rich musical heritage.” Per reports, the purchase and demolition of the house were initiated by local construction company Burwood Square Pty Ltd , who had also purchased the adjoining property with the intent of redeveloping the location into a AUD $28.75 million residential site However, in a statement from Burwood Square general manager Leon Kmita (published via The Herald Sun), the company has shared their regret for the demolition, claiming they were unaware of the cultural importance held by the house. “We regret that the previous long-term owner did not share this vital part of the property’s background with us,” Kmita said. “Learning about this connection after our plans were already underway has shocked us. We are genuinely sorry for this oversight.” According to Kmita, the Burwood Square team are in the process of attempting to salvage materials so they can create a “special space” for fans of AC/DC to “gather to celebrate the band’s enduring legacy”. “On behalf of the team at Burwood Square, I want to convey our heartfelt regret … we now recognise how deeply this location resonates with the AC/DC community and fans worldwide,” Kmita continued. “We feel a strong responsibility to honour AC/DC’s legacy and to make amends to all the fans who hold this band in such high regard. “While we cannot change the past, we are dedicated to celebrating this significant part of their story,” he added. “To the global fanbase of AC/DC, please know that we hear you, appreciate your deep admiration for this legendary band, and are devoted to making this right.” Source link

We have our first new Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 of 2025 — and it’s with a song that was already on the chart for 18 weeks in 2024. With the seasonal glut of holiday songs vacating the chart in this post-Christmas tracking week, Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars‘ “Die With a Smile” jumps from No. 17 to No. 1 on the Hot 100, seizing the top spot for the first time after previously peaking at No. 2 multiple times in 2024. The song gives Gaga her sixth No. 1 on the chart, and Mars (who also ranks at No. 5 this week with the ROSÉ team up “APT.”) his ninth. How surprised are we that the song finally claimed the top spot after such a long run? And what might be the next leftover 2024 hit to succeed it on top? Billboard staffers discuss these questions and more below. 1. “Die With a Smile” finally hits No. 1 on the Hot 100 in the first post-holidays week of 2025 after being held to a ceiling of No. 2 on the chart in 2024. On a scale from 1-10, how surprised are you that the song was finally able to get over the top? Rania Aniftos: Maybe a 1. With the holiday songs dropping off the charts, and no new hits to claim the top spot, “Die With a Smile” was an easy contender to take over the Hot 100 given how often it plays everywhere, from department stores and restaurants to radio stations and every Spotify playlist. Katie Atkinson: 8. When “Die” peaked at No. 2 in early December, I was certain that it had fallen victim to the inevitable avalanche of holiday hits coming to the Hot 100 top 10. But at the same time, with its biggest non-Christmas challenger being Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” — which had seemingly run its course with a record-typing 19th week atop the chart — the path cleared for the determined duet. I really shouldn’t be that surprised, though: I’ve been championing this song (on the Billboard Pop Shop Podcast and to any friends and family who will listen) since the summer, because while I liked the song when it first came out, I grew to love it even more in the months after, showing just how powerful its appeal was. Kyle Denis: 4. For “Smile,” it was always a matter of when, not if, it would reach the top spot. Before Kendrick Lamar’s GNX chart bomb and the Mariah Carey-led holiday music takeover, “Smile” logged four straight weeks at No. 2 behind Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song” — and the gap between the two was getting steadily shrinking.  We haven’t gotten a major pop single in 2025 yet (for what it’s worth, neither Lil Baby’s nor Bad Bunny’s albums appear to be launching a breakout hit), and “Smile” was due for a turn at the top. If we look at the most recent Hot 100 top 10: “Birds of A Feather,” “Espresso,” “Lose Control” and “I Had Some Help” are all older than “Smile” and have had their time in the sun, while rising hits like “APT,” “That’s So True” and “Luther” need a bit more time to catch up to “Smile” in terms of chart points.  Jason Lipshutz: A 6. It’s surprising whenever any autumn hit is able to power through the holiday season and come out on top to start the new year, but by November, “Die With a Smile” clearly seemed like the song that could make it happen in early 2025, if any could. Amidst the Mariah, Brenda and Wham!, Bruno and Gaga held strong near the top of the chart in December, setting themselves up to swoop in once the holiday music subsided and scoop up another No. 1 each. Once it was clear that “Die With a Smile” had real legs as a months-long hit, reaching the top of the Hot 100 was always a possibility for the duet. Andrew Unterberger: An 8. Once it failed to edge out Shaboozey in what ended up being the historic 19th week atop the Hot 100 for “A Bar Song” — and then got buried under the avalanche of Kendrick Lamar debuts and Christmas recurrents — I thought for sure “Smile” had missed its last best chance. But it held strong, nothing else swooped in from the wings, and it gets to be a very nice kickoff to what’s sure to big a big 2025 for both artists. 2. Between Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga, which of the two artists do you think the song means more to? Rania Aniftos: Gaga! She’s been off the music game for a moment, shifting her focus to her makeup brand and film roles, so the accomplishment probably provides a sense of validation while she’s working on her new album. Katie Atkinson: Even though it’s a duet, “Die With a Smile” has felt more like a Bruno Mars song (featuring Lady Gaga) to me than an equal billing. But looking at the two stars’ other concurrent releases – ROSÉ’s “APT.” for Mars and Gaga’s “Disease” – “APT.” has had the much stronger start, peaking at No. 5 compared to No. 27 for the LG7 lead single, so it looks like Gaga gets the bigger boost from what feels like a Bruno-led production. (And in fact, Gaga told the Los Angeles Times last month that “Die” will be on LG7, so it obviously means a lot to her: “It’s a huge part of my album. It was like this missing piece.”) Kyle Denis: Probably Gaga. Between the tepid response to Joker 2, Harlequin and “Disease,” it must feel nice to get a win somewhere this year.  Jason Lipshutz: Gaga, for sure. “Die With a Smile” may announce Mars’ grand return following multiple years without a song released under his own name, but he’s already collected another top 10 hit since its release, with the ROSÉ team-up “APT.” Gaga, meanwhile, launched her next solo era with “Disease,” an electro-pop single that stalled

On Tuesday (Jan. 7), the 45-year-old singer/songwriter toasted the 49-year-old racer with a sweet Instagram post commemorating their nearly two decades as a married couple. “19 years ago on a beach in Costa Rica we both took a chance we weren’t sure we even believed in,” Pink wrote, sharing a selfie with her husband from an outdoor snow day. “I’m so glad we did.” “I’ve been with you longer than I haven’t,” the “So What” artist continued. “You’ve been my one constant. You have loved me, hated me, and loved me again. I love our story no matter what gets written. It is gritty and sweet. Thank you for being by my side all these years. I love you forever.” Pink and Hart first started dating in 2001, four years after which they got engaged. In 2006, the couple tied the knot in Costa Rica. Kelly Clarkson is back with another Kellyoke cover, and it’s a sweet one. Taking the Kelly Clarkson Show stage on Tuesday (Jan. 7), the vocalist performed Hozier‘s smash “Too Sweet” for her live audience in New York City. Surrounded by members of her in-house band and dressed in all-black, Clarkson’s famous powerhouse vocals gave the soft-rock track an extra kick. “I think I’ll take my whiskey neat/ My coffee black and my bed at 3,” she sang. “You’re too sweet for me.” Released in March on the Irish singer/songwriter’s EP Unheard, “Too Sweet” became Hozier’s first-ever No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 when the track ascended to the top of the chart in April last year. His previous peak on the chart had been at No. 2 in 2014 with “Take Me to Church.” “It kind of just put wind in the sails of a ship that was already sort of moving,” he recently told Billboard of the 2024 track’s success. “It was just like this thing that happened, and it’s been like a cherry on the cake.” Clarkson’s cover marks just her second Kellyoke performance of the new year on YouTube, with the star also nailing St. Lucia’s “Dancing on Glass” during the Jan. 6 episode of the American Idol champion’s talk show. Multi-faceted musician Billy Strings is bolstering his 2025 touring schedule with a slate of added headlining concerts throughout the spring and summer. The nearly 20 newly-added dates begin April 3 with three concerts in St. Augustine, Fla. at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre, with more shows set for states including Georgia, Michigan, Missouri and Illinois. The trek winds down with two shows at Lexington, Ky.’s Rupp Arena on June 20-21. In a recent sitdown interview with HipHopDX, the rapper and filmmaker gave the Odd Future founder some high praise by comparing him to a couple influential West Coast groups. “That’s L.A. That’s the L.A. people don’t know about — ultra creative individuals who won’t conform to the culture of gangbanging. They’re going to be themselves,” he said when asked about his thoughts on the Hawthorne, California rapper.
