Which Is Your Favorite New Latin Music Release of the Week? Vote!

This week, Billboard’s New Music Latin roundup and playlist — curated by Billboard Latin and Billboard Español editors — features fresh new music from artists including Adriel Favela & Octavio Cuadras, Kapo and Ke Personajes, to name a few. Adriel Favela and Octavio Cuadras kick off the new year with a “happy corrido.” The two música mexicana hitmakers team up for “Esquizofrénico,” which thrives on a vibrant horn section and requinto melodies. The track previews Favela’s upcoming new album Origen, set to be released Jan. 23. Meanwhile, Guaynaa released “QNPLC,” initials for “Que No Pare La Cumbia,” featuring Mexican group Tropikal Forever. The song honors cumbia, a genre that originated in Colombia but is also super popular in other Latin American countries like Argentina and Mexico. Bad Bunny also released his sixth studio album, Debí Tirar Más Fotos, on Sunday (Jan. 5). The 17-track set, with producers like Tainy, MAG and La Paciencia, is an ode to Puerto Rico and the music that has soundtracked the island for generations. Featuring collaborations with Chuwi, Dei V, Omar Courtz, Pleneros de la Cresta and RaiNao — all Puerto Rican acts — the superstar takes traditional Afro-Puerto Rican styles such as plena and jíbara and fuses them with his signature urbano swagger. Other new releases include Paulo Londra and Luísa Sonza’s “Itamambuca,” powered by a pulsating baile funk rhythm; Ke Personajes’ “La Danza”; Kapo’s “Aloh Aloh”; and Alfredo Olivas’ “Noche de Enciclopedia.” Who should win this week? Give these new releases a spin and vote for your favorite new Latin music release below. Source link

Kodak Black Says Rap Might ‘Try to Do Me Like Drake’

Kodak Black is worried rap fans will turn on him eventually. During a recent Instagram Live session, the Florida rapper revealed that he feels a “Hate Kodak campaign” is in his future. “One day these n—s gon’ try to do me like Drake,” he said referring to the blowback the Toronto rapper has suffered since losing his battle with Kendrick Lamar. “Whole little hate Kodak campaign. Everybody who hate Kodak to the left. You see these n—s campaigning and sh—t.” While Kodak was somewhat incoherent soon after, we were able to make out him saying, “I’m a great friend, but I ain’t friendly.” We’re not exactly sure what he was referring to, but Kodak has a history with both Lamar and Drake. Kodak was featured on the Compton MC’s 2022’s Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers as a narrator of sorts, something Kendrick was criticized for given Kodak’s long legal history, which includes a first-degree assault charge after an incident with a teenage girl in a hotel room in 2016. Explore See latest videos, charts and news See latest videos, charts and news Drake, on the other hand, has referred to Kodak as his favorite rapper, at least according to Kodak himself. This past December, during another IG Live, he said, “I’m Drake’s favorite rapper. He always says that. Even his people always say that,” as he paced around a living room. “It don’t make no sense how Kendrick Lamar beat you to it, you know what I mean,” he then said in reference to his appearance on Mr. Morale. Kodak then mentioned the $600,000 in Bitcoin Drake allegedly sent him. “I get why he sent all that money now. That’s why he sent that out of nowhere like that.” The “No Flockin’” rapper was also upset with Drake over 2022’s Her Loss because he decided to do the project with 21 Savage instead of him. “I had told Drake I ain’t wanna do no collab actually,” he revealed during yet another Instagram Live. “No songs or no album, ’cause we supposed to been did a whole album together before him and lil buddy did that sh—t.” Adding, “I had told him I wanted to wait, like 2023, after February.” Source link

Artists With Most Number 1 Songs on Hot 100 This Century Revealed

“Because Rihanna has remained in the public’s eye for two years, her recognition level is high,” Billboard wrote in 2007. “‘If you say her name, people know who she is,’ [radio programmer Cat] Thomas says. ‘But is she at a level where she can sell out an arena? No.’ “Pausing, he adds, ‘but that could change.’ ” Long before the end of the 21st century, Rihanna’s profile had rocketed, in music and beyond, punctuated in 2023 by her appearance at a spectacle far bigger than an arena: the Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. In addition to 67,827 ticketholders, the performance played to a then-record 121 million viewers on TV. Rihanna had by then also notched the most No. 1 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 of any artist during the 21st century: 14. She first topped the chart dated May 13, 2006, with “SOS.” (“Normally, the universal signal for distress means that someone is in trouble. The opposite is true for Rihanna,” Fred Bronson wrote in the Chart Beat column that issue.) Rihanna most recently ruled the Hot 100 with “Work,” featuring Drake, for 10 weeks in 2016.
