Liam Payne’s Sister Details Last Time She Saw Him Before His Death

Liam Payne’s older sister Nicola Payne is reflecting on her final moments with her brother. On Friday (Aug. 29), which would’ve marked Liam’s 32nd birthday, Nicola shared a heartfelt tribute on social media, remembering the last time she saw the former One Direction star. Liam passed away in October 2024 after falling from the balcony of his hotel room in Argentina. “A year ago today, we were so full of hope and excitement for what the years ahead would bring you,” Nicola wrote on Instagram. “That night, celebrating your birthday with bowling and McDonald’s, we celebrated you, your show, your dreams, and spoke of all the plans you had for the future. We ended the evening with a hug, telling you how proud we were and how much we loved you. She continued, “If I had known that would be the last time I’d see you, I would have said so much more. I wish I could step into a time machine and relive that night, hug you tighter, capture your smile and voice, ask more questions and write it all down so I’d never forget. I hope you’re happy, at peace and know just how deeply you are loved. I miss you every single day, and I don’t think there will ever be a day that I don’t. Nicola ended her emotional message by sending birthday wishes to her brother in heaven. “So today, on your birthday, I want to wish you the happiest heavenly birthday,” she wrote. “Whenever you are, I hope you’re celebrating and hopefully you’ve scored a few strikes too.” Payne’s older sister wasn’t the only one remembering him on what would have been his 32nd birthday. The singer’s girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, also shared an emotional message in his honor. “My dearest Liam, it breaks my heart being that I can’t hand you a physical birthday card today,” Cassidy wrote on Instagram. “That I can’t hear your laugh, or tell you all the things I wish I’d said a thousand more times. I’ve been struggling to find the right words, but I’ll start with the most obvious, happy birthday.” She continued, “Today, you would have been 32. In your 31 years here on this earth you brought so much joy, happiness and hope to so many- especially to me. I hope you know how brightly you still shine, even from up there.” The social media influencer concluded her tribute by promising to carry Liam’s memory with strength and love, despite the grief she continues to face since his passing. “I promise you I will celebrate you extra today, honor your life, and cherish the beautiful times we’ve had,” she wrote. “August 29th will be a date that sits in my heart for the rest of my life. I love you so much.” Payne died at the age of 31 on Oct. 16, 2024, after falling from a third-story hotel balcony in Buenos Aires. According to toxicology reports released after his death, the X Factor alum had multiple substances in his system and a dangerously high blood-alcohol level at the time of the incident. Source link

Manuel Turizo’s 201 World Tour Stop in Miami: Highlights

Manuel Turizo’s 201 world tour made its way to Miami on Friday (Aug. 29) after making pit stops in Mexico, Chile, Costa Rica and Argentina first.  The Colombian artist opened his one-hour and 30-minute show with three of his popular collaborations: “Mala Costumbre,” “Los Cachos” and “Te Quemastes,” before greeting his fans at the Kaseya Center.  Explore See latest videos, charts and news He shined wearing an edgy suit with mixed metals, an open blazer that showed off his perfectly toned and tanned body, and a baseball cap with the number 201, honoring the trek’s name. He was also joined by a group of eight female and male dancers, and a group of musicians including his brother Julian Turizo.  Notably, the stage reflected what was his childhood apartment in Montería, Colombia, divided into three sections: the bedroom, the living room, and the balcony.  “I was thinking about how to connect Manuel Turizo as a performer with where he comes from and where all these inspirations or all these stories a person lives originate,” he previously said to Billboard of his tour’s concept. “All of that happens in my house. In [apartment] 201 there were heartbreaks, there were loves, drunken parties with friends, with family — all the stories are there. All the songs are born there, all the ideas are born there.”  Evidently, that’s what he portrayed at the show — a fun get together with friends.  He continued with the dance-ready bangers and the romantic ballads, including some of his No. 1 Billboard hits such as “La Nota,” “Vaina Loca,” “Copa Vacia,” “Vagabundo,” “La Bachata” and “En Privado.” At one point, he performed his norteño-tinged tunes “Una Cerveza” and “Lunes a Lunes,” dedicating the small set to his Mexican fans. “I come from Colombia,” he said at the show. “The first country that played my music, internationally, was Mexico. This is my little piece of Mexico.”  After a few more shirtless moments and making a toast with the audience, Turizo wrapped up his show with his tropical hit “El Merengue.” The CMN and La Industria Inc-produced stint in support of his latest studio album 201 continues Aug. 31 in North Carolina and wraps in September in California. Lumineers’ Fraites on Scoring Springsteen’s ‘Deliver Me From Nowhere’

As Deliver Me From Nowhere, the Scott Cooper-directed biopic about the making of Bruce Springsteen’s moody, bleak Nebraska album premiered at Telluride Film Festival in Colorado on Friday night (Aug. 29), viewers were the first to hear Jeremiah Fraites’ emotional score. Explore See latest videos, charts and news The Lumineers co-founder moved into composing with the film, which held special meaning for him. “I grew up in New Jersey, so Bruce Springsteen’s music was always a part of my landscape, whether learning how to drive to eating at 24-hour diners, his music was always with me,” Fraites tells Billboard.  “Collaborating with Scott Cooper on Deliver Me From Nowhere was a career high and personal privilege. What Scott has done with this film is rare—he’s captured the quiet fragility and unfiltered honesty of Bruce’s life during the making of Nebraska. It was an honor to support his vision.” The 20th Century Studios film chronicles Springsteen writing and recording the 1982 album, recorded on a 4-track recorder in his New Jersey bedroom, and the emotional upheaval he experienced as he dealt with his growing fame and his conflicted past. Jeremy Allen White stars as Springsteen, while Jeremy Strong plays his longtime manager Jon Landau. For Fraites, the challenge was to honor Springsteen’s work without parroting it. “I didn’t approach the score by trying to imitate Bruce’s sound—there’s no way to replicate that. But the emotional tone of Nebraska—its restraint, its space, its raw honesty—definitely informed the way I thought about the music. It was more about feeling than style,” he says. “I chose to ground the score with an upright piano I playfully call Firewood—a beat-up instrument so devalued it was once considered fit only to burn,” he continues. “That imperfection felt right for Bruce’s story: raw, unvarnished, and rooted in resilience. Its rough edges and worn tone captured a sense of grit and authenticity that a pristine concert piano simply couldn’t.” It’s a big fall season for Fraites, who also scored Stephen King’s The Long Walk, with the Lionsgate film opening Sept. 12. Additionally, The Lumineers continue on their 2025 tour, which includes a mix of stadium and amphitheater dates, including Chicago’s Soldier Field Saturday (Aug. 30) and Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. on Sept. 6. Deliver Me From Nowhere opens wide theatrically Oct. 24. Source link

Rihanna Sends Message to Fans for 20 Years of ‘Music of the Sun’

Twenty years ago, Rihanna released her debut album, Music of the Sun, on Aug. 29, 2005. No one could have predicted on that late summer day just how close to the sun the then-17-year-old from Barbados would end up flying. Two decades later, the woman born Robyn Fenty has added a lot of hyphens to her job title beyond pop star, venturing into acting (Battleship, Smurfs), business (Fenty Beauty, Savage x Fenty) and motherhood (RZA and Riot Rose with A$AP Rocky), just to name a few side hustles. On Friday (Aug. 29), Rihanna couldn’t let the day go by without celebrating all that she’s accomplished in her illustrious career. On her social accounts, RiRi shared a video that looked back at all her awards, Billboard chart-topping hits, business accomplishments and philanthropy over the years, alongside a heartfelt message of gratitude to all those who’ve helped her live her wildest dreams. “20 years ago, i left my country, my culture, my food, and family to embark on a journey that started with the release of my very first body of music!” Rihanna wrote across her Instagram and X accounts alongside the video. “So many of you were a part of my life and career since the very beginning, and some of you have joined the adventure along the way. I’m forever grateful to all of you. Each of you played a very crucial role in where this journey has taken me thus far! I just wanted to take this moment to say thank you! “Thank you for the greatest first 20 years ever!” she continued. “20 years of the most loyal, die-hard fans that don’t play about me whatsoever, 20 years of hard work and hardworking teams around me, 20 years of lessons, 20 years of unforgettable experiences and accomplishments, 20 years of my family being my number one support system, and to all the people who said yes to me and gave me a chance before it was ‘cool’ to (Execs, DJ’s, writers, producers, dancers, choreographers, directors, fashion designers, photographers, glam, journalists, brands, mentors, etc etc) 20 years worth of thanks to you!! I thank God, He’s been very generous to me and the Glory belongs to Him!” She ended the message with the hashtag #R20, just as her loyal Navy fanbase has been doing in their celebration posts all day. Music of the Sun started it all for Rihanna, beginning with lead single and breakthrough hit “Pon De Replay,” which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in July 2005 ahead of the album’s release the next month. So far, Rihanna has racked up 32 top 10 Hot 100 hits — with 14 of those going to No. 1. Music of the Sun debuted at No. 10 on the Billboard 200 and stayed on the chart for 35 weeks. Myd, salute, Paul Kalkbrenner & Stromae

This week in dance music: A new trailer for 100 Nights Of Hero, starring club queen Charli xcx, was released ahead of the film’s debut at Venice International Film Festival on Sept. 6. Beatport launched a Global Remix Competition of Madonna’s 1998 classic “Ray of Light” in collaboration with Rhino Entertainment, Warner Records LabelRadar and Madonna herself. Submissions are open until Sept. 25. Meanwhile, Major Lazer returned with a new single and a whole new member, with British-Jamaican artist America Foster now making the group a foursome. The fresh Major Lazer track “Gangsta” features Kybba and frequent collaborator Busy Signal, who Major Lazer fans will recognize from the group’s essential “Watch Out For This (Bumaye)” from 2013’s Free The Universe. And in terms of other power pairings, Laidback Luke linked with James Brown’s grandson Jason Brown for a fresh take on the elder Brown’s classic “Super Bad.” Out via Dim Mak Records, the collab puts a delicious blog house spin on the 1971 essential, with Luke telling Billboard that when he first got the stems to the song “I was scared. It’s sacred material; I didn’t want to touch it.” But the Dutch legend adds that Jason Brown gave him “complete freedom” to do what he wanted with the song “that made me feel like I could just run with this.” “It kind of puts [my grandfather] into the future,” Jason Brown, who is himself a DJ and producer, adds of the final product. “And that’s the goal. This supersedes the goal.” And finally, ahead of the long holiday weekend, these are the best new dance tracks of the week. Myd, Mydight Longtime Ed Banger associate Myd further carves out his own identity in that lauded ecosystem with his excellent third album, Mydnight. The 13-song project is at once playful and sophisticated, revealing a propensity for synths that shine bright as the sun and reach place of euphoria that feel nearly psychedelic (as on tracks like “Make Me Feel Alive”), along with penchant for genuine emotional weight, as heard on the slowly building encouragement anthem “Be Someone New,” a soaring collab with singer Kacy Hill, performing here under the name Bethanie Home. That vulnerability is matched with the boldness of Myd putting his own voice on nearly every track — a rarity in the dance world and a stamp that helps make each song more human and fully his own. Other guests on the album include Carlita, Channel Tres and Calcutta, giving this one an altogether an appropriately festive feel. The album comes amid an extremely stacked tour schedule that includes club dates across Europe, Asia and North America clear into 2026. Mydnight is out on Ed Banger Records/Because Music. Listen to it here. salute, “double luxury” As demonstrated on their shimmering 2024 debut album True Magic, Manchester-based producer salute has a gift for making music that absolutely sparkles, but still carries the heft required to get bodies moving. That dexterity is once again flexed on “double luxury,” salute’s first solo single of 2025 and the lead single from fabric presents, a forthcoming compilation featuring music from artists including Kerri Chandler, Bodhi and another new track from salute. Lacing together bright bells, soulful vocals and a bouncy house beat that propels the whole thing forward, “double luxury” comes ahead of salute’s appearance at Portola in San Francisco next month. “double luxury” is out on fabric Records. Listen to it here. Paul Kalkbrenner & Stromae, “Que Ce Soit Clair” It’s a formidable meetings of the minds and the talents with Paul Kalkbrenner recruiting Belgian star Stromae for “Que Ce Soit Clair,” which translates to the declarative “let this be clear.” The track is indeed crystal in its execution, with Kalkbrenner creating a driving and tightly layered production upon which Stromae delivers a sing-song rap in French with his unmistakable baritone. The track comes with a surrealy futuristic video from Kelzang Ravach of creative agency Temple Caché and is the second single from Kalkbrenner’s new album The Essence, coming October 10. “Que Ce Soit Clair” is out on B1 Recordings/Sony Music. Listen to it here. e-Dancer & DJ Minx, “Detroit” You could get a complete education on the electronic music history and influence of Detroit simply by researching everyone and everything name checked on “Detroit,” the new single from techno creator Kevin Saunderson and his longtime producing partner and son Dantiez performing under their e-Dancer alias alongside Motor City musical titan DJ Minx. “Born here that’s a fact,” Minx states, before going on to reference legends including Juan Atkins, Moodymann, Stacey Pullan, Kenny Larkin, MK, Jeff Mills, Octave One and many of the other people, places and labels that made and make Detroit a cradle of the genre. “People, know your history” implores the slinky chorus, at once pointing to this history and extending it over a thick and darkly groovy wind up production. “Listen to the words and feel what they mean. This track is like an assignment,” Minx says in a statement. “Everything I say on it, you can look up and find the history. Detroit is family. We’re close-knit, we protect our city. Black people started this music. We started jazz, we started Motown, we started techno — and the love for this city, for this music, never stops. I love my city.” “Detroit” is out on KMS Records. Listen to it here. Nghtmre, Mindfull Nghtmre has a long-established sound known and adored for beats and productions that electrify the nervous system with barely controlled low end. Doja Cat Drops Out of ACL, The Killers Take Over as Headliners

Doja Cat is pulling out of Austin City Limits, but on the bright side, The Killers are stepping in to take over her headlining slot. In a candid message on her Instagram Story on Friday (Aug. 29), the rapper announced that she would no longer be closing out the festival on back-to-back Sundays in October as she needs more time to focus on the rollout for her upcoming album Vie. “When I made the commitment I didn’t know exactly when Vie would be released,” she began. “I’ve been working on finalizing the album, making videos, taking the time to put together an album campaign that I am really excited about, and it’s become clear to me that I cannot give you guys the show you deserve within this time frame,” she continued. “Thank you to the ACL team for their support and I hope to see you all again soon when the time is right. I’m forever grateful for the opportunity.” Shortly after Doja announced her departure, ACL posted word that the Killers would be filling in for her at the main stage on Oct. 5 and 12. “Please welcome @thekillers to the stage,” the Texas festival wrote on Instagram, sharing a video of one of the band’s past performances. “Your new headliners will perform both Sundays of ACL Fest!” The news comes about a month ahead of the release of Vie, which is set to drop on Sept. 26. So far, Doja has shared one song from the album: “Jealous Type.” And while fans won’t get to see Doja perform at ACL this year, its lineup is still full of big names performing both weekends. Sabrina Carpenter and Hozier are headlining the other dates, while sets from Luke Combs, Cage the Elephant, Doechii, The Strokes, John Summit and more will take place throughout the festival.
