Latin Collaborations We Want to See in 2025

Here are the collabs our Latin editors are hoping for this year. Maria Becerra and Thalía during Billboard Latin Music Week Day 3 Panels at the Fillmore Miami Beach on Oct. 16, 2024 in Miami Beach, Florida. Gustavo Caballero Five out of the top 10 tracks on the 2024 Hot Latin Songs year-end chart were collaborations. From Luis R Conriquez and Neton Vega’s attitude-heavy corrido “Si No Quieres No” to FloyyMenor and Cris MJ’s global reggaeton hit “Gata Only” and Fuerza Regida and Marshmello’s EDM-laden “Harley Quinn,” these teamups dominated not only the charts but also the whole year. The aforementioned collabs, along with teamups by Peso Pluma and Cardi B; Prince Royce and Gabito Ballesteros; Belinda and Natanael Cano; and J Balvin and Feid, marked a year of dream collaborations we didn’t know we needed. As we’re ringing in the new year, Billboard Latin editors have put together a list of eight pairings that, while not yet confirmed to be in the works, we’d love to see happen in 2025. The wide-ranging list includes dream collaborations that would make a big girl-power statement, including Belinda and Becky G jumping on a corrido tumbado, a música mexicana subgenre both artists have embraced. Plus, there’s Rosalía and Yailin La Más Viral, who are already friends, which could potentially lead to a musical project. There’re also two possible collaborations we’ve been thinking about since the 2024 Billboard Latin Music Week: Thalia and Maria Becerra and J Balvin and Pedro El Rapero. The former met for the first time when they linked up for a Mental Health panel, and they turned out to be sort of like kindred spirits. The latter sparked from a totally spontaneous moment when a young rapper from Venezuela jumped onstage to show J Balvin some of his songs. Balvin was instantly mesmerized. From Karol G and Grupo Niche to Aventura and Natti Natasha, below are our editors’ picks for dream collaborations in 2025 (in no particular order): J Balvin & Pedro El Rapero Image Credit: Gustavo Caballero Why It Would Work: One of the most unforgettable moments at the 2024 Billboard Latin Music Week was when Pedro El Rapero, a young rapper from Venezuela sitting in the audience, raised his hand to ask J Balvin a potent question: “How can I collaborate with you?” Taken aback by Pedro’s courage, Balvin invited Pedro up to the stage, where we was just wrapping his Superstar Q&A, and listened to Pedro’s music on a phone and then live, as Pedro spit bars that impressed the Colombian hitmaker. The two hit it off right away. “It’s a good thing [that] this guy wasn’t during my, time because he would’ve taken my career away in a second,” Balvin confessed. Balvin is known for supporting up-and-coming artists, he’s done so throughout his career, so it wouldn’t be surprising if he did jump on a track with Pedro El Rapero. And Pedro, at 13 years old, has already had support of artists like El Alfa, who invited Pedro to perform at one of his shows in Venezuela two years ago. Pedro already proved he has the determination and chops to sing alongside a global star, and the two have stayed in touch, so we have high hopes for this collaboration. Belinda & Becky G Why It Would Work: It’s been a year since Belinda entered her corridos tumbados era with “Cactus” and since, she’s collaborated with the biggest hitmakers in the genre, including subgenre pioneer Natanael Cano, Neton Vega and an upcoming track with Tito Double P. Meanwhile, Beck G has also embraced corridos and has, in fact, released two música mexicana albums (Esquinas and Encuentros), and she’s also collaborated with many of the male hitmakers, including Oscar Maydon, Peso Pluma and Gabito Ballesteros. But she’s also collaborated with Ángela Aguilar, Yahritza Martínez (of Yahritza Y Su Esencia) an up-and-coming corridos singer Delilah, doubling down on her commitment to support other women in the industry, as she often has. In this still male-dominated world of regional Mexican music, it would be a massive statement if these two female powerhouses were to team up for a corrido tumbado. Rosalía & Yailin La Más Viral Why It Would Work: When Rosalía collaborated with the then-emerging artist Tokischa on their flamenco-tinged dembow hit “Linda” in 2021, it captured the world’s attention. This type of innovative mixing of genres is something Rosalía has been celebrated for, and it sets the stage perfectly for another intriguing potential collaboration, this time with Yailin La Más Viral. Known not only for her headline-making personal life (and permanently changing her eye color), Yailin is now putting a spotlight on her musical prowess. Her track, the hypnotic, dembow-infused “Bing Bong,” released in November, placed her at No. 28 on Hot Latin Songs. Furthermore, the potential for collaboration between the two isn’t just wishful thinking. The Spanish superstar was recently spotted spending time in the Dominican Republic with Yailin at a New Year’s Eve party. This interaction might hint at a deeper musical connection, sparking excitement about what these two artists could create together. Peso Pluma & Kendrick Lamar Why It Would Work: Peso Pluma, one of the leading figures in corridos today, has proven his musical versatility across various genres. His collaborations range from the synthy neo-soul groove of “Igual Que Un Ángel” with Kali Uchis to the Tex-Mex cumbia of “Tulum” with Grupo Frontera, alongside ventures into reggaetón and trap. A standout is “Gimme a Second” with Rich the Kid, demonstrating Peso Pluma’s prowess in a trap-infused setting that aligns closely with rap sensibilities, hinting strongly at his potential for further excursions into hip-hop. Then there’s Kendrick Lamar, an artist whose lyrical depth in rap has placed him at the pinnacle of the genre. Kendrick doesn’t just rap, he’s a storyteller who blends complex narratives with socio-political themes while maintaining commercial appeal. Pairing these two artists will help bridge cultural and linguistic divides among música mexicana and U.S. rap culture to the next level. Moreover, with Peso Pluma set to make

Stars Who Speak on Their Mental Health Issues and Struggles

In recent years, artists have been doing their part to destigmatize mental health issues by opening up about their own experiences. Here’s what they’ve said. Getty Images For too long, many people — including musicians — have silently battled mental health issues, putting on a happy face for the rest of the world. But things have been changing. In recent years, many artists from across multiple genres have used their platforms to speak out in the hopes of destigmatizing everything from depression to bipolar disorder and more by opening up about their own struggles and methods for coping. Adele and Alanis Morissette, for example, have shared their experiences with postpartum depression. Billie Eilish opened up about how fame led to depression and suicidal ideation, while Bebe Rexha and Halsey shared their bioplar disorder diagnoses. Guns N’ Roses rocker Duff McKagan, who battles panic disorder, revealed that a new song was written in the midst of a panic attack, while Rick Springfield recalled a past suicide attempt in his memoir. These are just some of the brave artists who have shared their experiences to encourage the millions of fans who are listening to them. Read on for more musicians who have opened up about their mental health journeys. May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and Oct. 10 is World Mental Health Day. You can also call or text 988 to get connected to trained counselors. 6lack The artist took a break from making music after the release of 2018’s East Atlanta Love Letter to address his depression and mental health. “I will say it wasn’t until recent, that I actually learned the importance of getting to the source of the things that don’t make me feel great,” he later told Billboard in 2021 as he partnered with Mental Health America of Los Angeles and global therapy service BetterHelp to launch a PSA for World Mental Health Day. “I want to share my experiences and talk about the resources/things that helped me, in order to spark people to do the same for themselves.” Adele The Grammy-winning singer opened up about her postpartum depression in a 2016 Vanity Fair cover story when she explained why she was hesitant to have another child after welcoming son Angelo. “I’m too scared. I had really bad postpartum depression after I had my son, and it frightened me,” she said, noting that she did not take antidepressants. “My knowledge of postpartum — or post-natal, as we call it in England — is that you don’t want to be with your child; you’re worried you might hurt your child; you’re worried you weren’t doing a good job. But I was obsessed with my child. I felt very inadequate; I felt like I’d made the worst decision of my life. … It can come in many different forms.” Alanis Morissette After welcoming her third child in 2019, the singer opened up about her struggle with postpartum depression in a post on her website. “I wasn’t sure if I would have post partum depression/anxiety this time around. Or, as I like to call it: post partum activity. Or, also: post partum tar-drenched trenches,” she wrote. “Hormonal. Sleep deprivation. Fogginess. Physical pain. Isolation. Anxiety. Cortisol. Recovery from childbirth (as beautiful and intense as mine was at home, dream birth.), integrating new angel baby with older angel babies. Marriage. All kinds of PTSD triggers. … PPD is still a sneaky monkey with a machete.” Ariana Grande “I know those families and my fans, and everyone there experienced a tremendous amount of it as well. Time is the biggest thing. I feel like I shouldn’t even be talking about my own experience — like I shouldn’t even say anything. I don’t think I’ll ever know how to talk about it and not cry,” the pop star told British Vogue about suffering from PTSD after more than 20 people were killed in a bombing during one of her 2017 shows. “I’ve always had anxiety. I’ve never really spoken about it because I thought everyone had it, but when I got home from tour it was the most severe I think it’s ever been.” Grande also spoke out May 2, 2021, in the hopes of ending the stigma surrounding mental health. “Here’s to ending the stigma around mental health and normalizing asking for help,” Grande captioned a mini gallery of text slides, which included numerous resources. “Healing isn’t linear, fun, quick or at all easy but we are here and we’ve got to commit to making this time as healthy, peaceful and beautiful as possible. the work is so hard but we are capable and worth it. sending so much love and strength.” Bebe Rexha The singer told her fans via social media in 2019 that she had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. “For the longest time, I didn’t understand why I felt so sick. Why I felt lows that made me not want to leave my house or be around people and why I felt highs that wouldn’t let me sleep, wouldn’t let me stop working or creating music. Now I know why,” she wrote. “Honesty is a form of self love.” Becky G The singer-actress shared how touring was impacting her mental health in May 2019. “This year I became extremely aware of how much traveling f–ks my body,” she shared in her Instagram Stories. “The results from it all have been low blood circulation, muscle cramps, dehydration, anxiety and uncomfortable inflammation in certain areas of my body. I found my mental headspace becoming harder and harder to control with a schedule that is inconsistent with a healthy sleep schedule and time to decompress.” The “Mamiii” singer went on to share some

Lily Allen Shuts Down Drug Rumors & Gives Mental Health Update

Lily Allen just gave fans another update on her mental health, shutting down rumors that she’s been using drugs. On the latest episode of her Miss Me? podcast posted Thursday (Jan. 9), the 39-year-old singer told co-host Miquita Oliver that she’s “really not in a good place” lately. “I know I’ve been talking about it for months, but I’ve been spiraling and spiraling and spiraling and it’s got out of control,” she continued. Noting that she’s having trouble feeling “interested in anything,” Allen detailed how panic attacks have forced her to leave events and hangouts with friends early. “I just can’t concentrate on anything except the pain that I’m going through,” she added. That said, the “Smile” singer revealed that she’ll be taking an extended break from the podcast — but not for any other reason that might be gleaned from the “vicious rumors” Allen said she’s seen about herself in recent weeks. “I do want to reassure people, because there will be speculation … I’ve not relapsed,” she told listeners. Allen has been open in the past about her struggles with addiction. She got sober in 2019 and, the following year, married her husband, Stranger Things star David Harbour. And despite what might be circulating online, Allen affirmed that she still hasn’t looked back since. “I know there’s been some horrible blind items on the internet about me being found by my husband in a crack den being surrounded by men,” Allen said on Miss Me? as Oliver laughed in disbelief. “I don’t know who’s spreading these vicious rumors, but that’s not true.” Allen’s latest update comes a few weeks after she said on a December episode of the podcast that she’d been “going through a tough time over the last few months” as her eating had “become a real issue.” The English singer-songwriter has also previously opened up about being diagnosed with ADHD in 2023 and struggling with PTSD after delivering a stillborn son named George in 2010. The podcaster is also Mom to daughters Ethel and Marnie, whom she shares with ex-husband Sam Cooper. On the latest episode, she also touched on how she’s been leaning on her family unit during her difficult period, telling Oliver, “We are a support network for each other and encourage each other to talk about our feelings, but I think the main thing is telling them we’re going to get through it and be fine.” If you or anyone you know is struggling with mental health or substance abuse disorders, reach out to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration‘s national helpline 24/7 at 1-800-662-HELP (4357) for confidential treatment referrals and information. Liam Payne Cause of Death Confirmed as ‘Polytrauma’ in U.K. Inquest

The U.K. inquest into the cause of death for Liam Payne has concluded that the former One Direction singer and solo star died of “polytrauma” after his fall from a third-story hotel balcony in Argentina on Oct. 16. According to BBC News, the Buckinghamshire Coroner’s Court was told at the hearing held on Dec. 17 that it could take “some time” to establish the cause of death for the 31-year-old star. Explore Explore See latest videos, charts and news See latest videos, charts and news Polytrauma refers to multiple traumatic injuries to a person’s body and organs. The U.K. inquest’s findings mirror those of Argentinian officials, who said in November that Payne’s death was caused by “multiple trauma” and “internal and external hemorrhage,” as a result of the fall. The U.K. inquest also heard that after being flown back to England for his funeral, Payne’s body was identified with the “assistance of the funeral director in Buckinghamshire.” During the hearing, the BBC reported that Senior Coroner Crispin Butler, said, “Whilst there are ongoing investigations in Argentina into the circumstances of Liam’s death, over which I have no legal jurisdiction, it is anticipated that procuring the relevant information to address particularly how Liam came by his death may take some time through the formal channel of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.” To date, five people have been charged in Payne’s death, including the arrest last week of Braian Piaz, one of two men accused of supplying drugs to the singer. The others charged to date include CasaSur Palermo Hotel manager Gilda Martin, receptionist Esteban Grassi and Payne’s friend Roger Nores, all of whom are facing manslaughter charges; hotel employee Ezequiel Pereyra has also been charged with supplying drugs to the singer. The final autopsy report from Argentinian’s authorities attributed Payne’s death to multiple traumas and hemorrhages he suffered from the fall, with a toxicology report noting the presence of alcohol, cocaine and prescription antidepressants in his system at the time of death. Before the fall, the head receptionist at the hotel made two emergency calls requesting medical services — the first of which reported that a guest was “trashing the entire room,” with the second expressing a concern that the guest “may be in danger.” Payne was laid to rest in November in his native U.K. at a funeral attended by his former 1D bandmates, his girlfriend Katie Cassidy and ex-partner Cheryl Cole, with whom he shared a son, Bear. ‘The Fall of Diddy’ Trailer for Documentary Maps His Downfall: Watch

The first trailer for Investigation Discovery’s upcoming four-part docuseries, The Fall of Diddy, dropped on Thursday morning (Jan. 9), with a preview of its effort to unpack disgraced mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs‘ rise to global stardom and precipitous plunge amid dozens of allegations of sexual abuse, rape and assault. “Spanning Combs’ decades-long impact on music and popular culture, from his early days as a talented creative to his 2024 arrest, the docuseries uncovers the insidious and terrifying allegations of sexual assault, abusive behavior, violence, and other disturbing claims that lay beneath his success,” reads a release about the series from Maxine Productions (Quiet on the Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV) with original reporting from Rolling Stone Films. The series will air on Jan. 27 and Jan. 28 (from 9 to 11 p.m. ET on Investigation Discovery, later streaming on Max), promising to tell the story of Combs’ life from the perspective of those who, “saw his alleged violence and temper during his college days at Howard University and the onset of his career with Bad Boy Records, to those who knew him at the height of his influence and power in recent years.” The 90-second trailer features a series of interviews from a number of music industry peers and artists attesting to the dark side of the Bad Boy Records founder, with many of the subjects revealing their previous long-held fears of speaking out about the once-powerful music impresario. “I’ve been quiet for 18 years,” says an unseen woman in voiceover at the top of the trailer. “I am absolutely nervous sharing what I’ve seen,” she adds, as a man says, “I can no long just remain silent.” Former VIBE editor-in-Chief Danyel Smith — speaking for the first time on camera about Diddy’s alleged violent behavior toward her — adds, “This is where I’m supposed to be.” The first glimpse intercuts scenes from Diddy’s glory years in the 1990s with somber shots of the many Combs insiders and industry figures interviewed in the series, which will include former Danity Kane singer D. Woods, as well as Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones, who has accused Diddy of sexual harassment. In addition, the doc will include comments from journalist Cheyenne Roundtree, former bodyguard Roger Bonds, former personal chef Jourdan Cha-Taun and former driver Wardel Fenderson (who speaks for the first time and testified about Combs’ attempt to bribe him), in addition to Thalia Graves, a woman who has alleged that Combs violently raped her in 2001 and threatened her into silence. “Through these interviews combined with a vast collection of archival footage, The Fall of Diddy paints a holistic picture of a mogul who is alleged to have wielded his extensive power and influence to obscure, for decades, a pattern of abuse and violence that left an unprecedented amount of pain and suffering in his wake,” reads the statement. In a particularly harrowing soundbite, Jones recalls Diddy allegedly saying, “I’m Puff Daddy, I’ll eat your face off!” The trailer includes the now-infamous 2016 footage of Diddy running down a hotel hallway in just a towel in pursuit of longtime ex-girlfriend singer Cassie before he appears to assault her in an incident caught on surveillance footage. Cassie sued Combs in November 2023 over allegations that he repeatedly physically abused her over a decade during their relationship, including claims he raped her and forced her to “engage in sex acts with male sex workers” as he masturbated; the lawsuit was settled a day after it was filed, with the terms kept secret. Last July, in an emotional New York Times personal essay, Smith opened up for the first time about Diddy’s alleged harassment and intimidation of her in the late 1990s. It included a scene from a 2015 party — six months before the assault in the hotel video — where Cassie shakily asked her “How are you doing it?” Smith, who said she’d also been a victim of sexual assault, said she replied, “doing what?,” to which Cassie added, “like, how are you managing?” “We each wanted to say something. It seemed that neither of us could find the words,” Smith wrote. Combs, 55, is currently in federal custody after being denied bail three times as he awaits trial on counts of sex trafficking and racketeering in a federal case that is slated to begin on May 5; he has pleaded not guilty to the charges that could land him a life sentence if he’s convicted. He is also facing more than two dozen lawsuits from people accusing him of drugging, raping, assaulting and intimidating victims, with attorneys for some of the victims saying they are representing at least 120 other alleged victims; Combs had denied all the allegations. “We did not realize the extent of the darkness,” says one of the interview subjects in the trailer. Another Diddy doc, the 90-minute Diddy: The Making of a Bad Boy, will debut on Peacock on Jan. 14. Watch The Fall of Diddy trailer below. Source link
