Now that all the group’s members have completed their mandatory South Korean military service, BTS is gearing up for their full-strength return next year at an as-yet-undisclosed time. In a July 1 livestream the group announced that they will release a new album next spring as the follow-up to their recently released first live album, PERMISSION TO DANCE ON STAGE — LIVE. Enigma Norteno Singer Dead After Fatal Shooting

Ernesto Barajas, leader of the Mexican regional music group Enigma Norteño, was shot and killed on Tuesday (Aug. 19) afternoon in a parking lot in the municipality of Zapopan, on the outskirts of Guadalajara in the state of Jalisco, according to local media reports. He was 38 years old. The artist’s management and booking office, Tanto Líder, confirmed his death to Billboard Español. Tanto Líder also posted about Barajas’ passing through his Instagram Stories. “Rest in peace, Ernesto Barajas. Your Tanto Líder family will always be proud of you and remember you as the great artist and human being you were,” read the statement. “May God hold you in His holy love.” Two other people were reportedly injured in the attack, according to the newspaper El Universal, which also reported that Barajas had received threats from organized crime in 2023, and that the Jalisco State Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into the events. Calls made by Billboard Español to the prosecutor’s office and police were not immediately returned. Barajas rose to fame alongside his band with an extensive repertoire of narcocorridos in which he gave special prominence to figures from the Sinaloa Cartel, the state where he was born. Titles such as “Los Lujos el R,” “Quemándose un Gallito (El Rambo),” “Chavo Félix,” “Mayito Gordo,” “El Flaquito,” “El Chicken Little (EL 09)” and “Álbum JGL” are part of a long list of hits. In recent years, the singer had received constant threats, one of the most talked about being a narcomanta that appeared prior to Barajas’ show in Rosarito, Baja California in 2023, allegedly from the CJNG (Cártel Jalisco Nueva Generación), leading to the cancelation of his performance, according to El Financiero. The publication also reported that one direct message to the artist criticized his relationship with Alfonso “El Aquiles” and René “La Rana” Arzate García of the Sinaloa Cartel, and was signed by the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel. Due to its lyrics, Enigma Norteño was one of the groups most affected by the ban in several Mexican states on performing music that glorifies crime. In May, during an interview broadcast on Telemundo, Barajas spoke about this situation: “In my opinion, a song, a corrido, has nothing to do with what is happening in Mexico,” he said at the time. “About five or six years ago, there was also a wave of zero corridos. We once played in Chihuahua, which is one of the strictest states. I remember we made a list and played only songs, literally, and we had to do what other colleagues are doing, which is just playing the accordion and stuff, and they (the audience) were the ones singing.” In addition to music, Ernesto Barajas hosted the podcast Puntos de Vista; the last episode was published on his YouTube channel on Aug. 13. His podcast featured guests such as Eduin Caz from Grupo Firme, Gabito Ballesteros, Roberto Tapia, and Jesús Ortiz Paz from Fuerza Regida. In 2024, Enigma Norteño celebrated two decades of its career with a commemorative album, XX, featuring stars such as Gabito Ballesteros, Carín León, Panter Bélico and Joel de la P, all of whom are declared fans of the group. Just on Aug. 15, singer and producer Edgardo Nuñez released the song “Hello Kitty” in collaboration with the group. Source link

Kid Rock Goes ‘Nutz’ Over California Gov. Newsom’s Fake Endorsement Ad

California Gov. Gavin Newsom has been on an all-caps roll lately trolling the Trump White House. In a series of cap-locked Truth Social-like screeds, Newsom’s press office account has expertly approximated the shouting out the window tone of many of Donald Trump’s social missives while taking aim at the President, his administration members and Fox News supporters in satirical screeds on X. But over the weekend Newsom appeared to cross a line when he brought vocal Trump pal Kid Rock into the fray. In a clearly Photoshopped poster mimicking the iconic Uncle Sam Wants You WWI Army recruitment posters, Newsom’s team threw up an image of Rock in a red, white and blue top hat and matching suit in front of the American flag with the message “Kid Rock Wants You to Support Gavin Newsom.” Extending the clearly fake endorsement, Newsom’s personal account added “Thanks, @KidRock!!,” in seeming appreciation of the unexpected endorsement from the rocker-turned-country-singer who labeled Trump an “American Badass” in an interview in January. As you might expect, Rock, 54, didn’t love it. In a response post, the “Don’t Tell Me How to Live” singer wrote, “The only support Gavin Newscum will ever get out of me is from DEEZ NUTZ,” repurposing one of Trump’s pet nicknames for the California politician. Newsom went all-in this week on his challenge to Trump’s call for off-cycle redistricting in Texas to hold on to Republican’s slim House next year by asking Californians to vote on redistricting in the Golden State. The Rock AI post appeared to be a call-back to a Trump post from last year in which the former reality TV star shared a clearly cooked-up images of Taylor Swift falsely claiming that the singer had endorsed him. Trump has since repeatedly said he “hates” Swift, recently lashing out at the world’s biggest pop star by claiming that he “can’t stand her (HATE!)” and that she is “NO LONGER HOT.” Newsom didn’t miss that opportunity to troll either, with the Governor’s press office writing on Tuesday (Aug. 19), “I HATE KID ROCK !!!“ Get weekly rundowns straight to your inbox Sign Up Source link

Jack White Rips Trump’s ‘Vulgar, Gold-Leafed and Gaudy’ White House

Jack White has some thoughts on the gilding of the White House. The rocker who opened a bespoke upholstery shop in Detroit in the mid 1990s before launching his music career — and who has long had a keen eye for visual aesthetics — went scorched earth on Donald Trump’s gold-plated makeover of the People’s House in a no-holds-barred Instagram post on Tuesday (Aug. 19). Explore See latest videos, charts and news “Look at how disgusting trump has transformed the historic White House. It’s now a vulgar, gold leafed and gaudy, professional wrestler’s dressing room,” White said of the makeover Trump has rolled out for the White House, which includes all-gold-everything in the Oval Office. “Can’t wait for the UFC match on the front lawn too, he’s almost fully achieved the movie Idiocracy,” White added in reference to Trump’s plans to hold a ultimate fighting match on the White House grounds next year and the beloved 2006 Mike Judge movie satire of a world in which anti-intellectual, lowest-common-denominator dolts inherit the Earth. “Look at his disgusting taste, would you even buy a used car from this conman, let alone give him the nuclear codes?” White asked. In a clever side slam, White tagged Trump with a link to professional wrestling legend “Nature Boy” Ric Flair’s Instagram feed in the post, in which he also took aim a the many ways the president is abrogating norms by profiting from his second tenure in office. “A gold plated trump bible would look perfect up on that mantle with a pair of trump shoes on either side wouldn’t it?” White wrote. “What an embarrassment to American history. Also pictured in this photograph, a REAL leader of a nation in a black suit.” The post featured a photo of Trump meeting with Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelenskyy this week in the dizzyingly filigreed Oval Office. In keeping with the wrestling metaphor, White House communications director Steven Cheung attempted his own smack down of the 12-time Grammy-winning rocker who is slated to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as part of the White Stripes in November. “Jack White is a washed-up, has-been loser posting drivel on social media because he clearly has ample time on his hands due to his stalled career,” Cheung told The Daily Beast. “It’s apparent he’s been masquerading as a real artist, because he fails to appreciate, and quite frankly disrespects, the splendor and significance of the Oval Office inside of ‘The People’s House.’” At press time it appeared White had not responded to Cheung’s comments. In May, photo editor and creative consultant Emily Keegin wrote an essay in The New York Times entitled “Trump’s Oval Office is a Gilded Rococo Nightmare. Help,” in which she noted that in 2017 journalist Peter York referred to Trump’s shiny aesthetic as “dictator chic,” likening the former reality TV star’s New York penthouse style to that of late Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi’s opulent, garish mansions. In the commentary, Keegin described the 14K White House redesign as, “a parade of golden objects that march across the mantel, relegating the traditional Swedish ivy to a greenhouse. Gilded Rococo wall appliqués, nearly identical to the ones at Mr. Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, are stuck to the fireplace and office walls with the same level of aesthetic consideration a child gives her doll’s face before covering it in nail polish.” Check out White’s post here. Rob Halford ‘Curled Up in a Ball’ Weeping Over Ozzy Osbourne’s Death

Judas Priest singer Rob Halford revealed in May that he was “gutted” to miss Ozzy Osbourne‘s final show with Black Sabbath at July’s Back to the Beginning concert. Halford, who, like Ozzy, is from Birmingham, England, was, unfortunately, double-booked on July 5, slated to play a 60th anniversary show with the Scorpions in Hanover, Germany that day. Now, following Osbourne’s death on July 22 at age 76 from a heart attack, Halford is opening up about his grief following the loss of the fellow Metal icon who meant so much to him. In an interview with Talkin’ Rock with Meltdown, Halford, 73, described getting a call on the day Osbourne passed and just losing it. “I just put the phone down in my hotel room… and I just curled up in a ball and bawled my eyes out for hours,” he said. “I just couldn’t believe it. I still can’t believe it now,” Halford added. “I’m still grieving like so many people.” Halford said Priest had a show the next day and he described struggling to process “all this tragedy, all this love, because I’ve never seen such an outpouring of love.” But just like other times when the band had to perform after losing one of their beloved musical compatriots, the show went on and Priest played a tune called “Giants in the Sky” from the band’s 2024 Invincible Shield album about legends that have moved on from this world. The song features the now apropos refrain, “Homage to the legends/ Till the bitter end/ Leaving such a legacy my friends/ Giants in the sky/ You won’t ever die.” During that show, Halford said he referenced Motorhead’s Lemmy Kilmister, Ronnie James Dio, Janis Joplin, Freddie Mercury and, for that night, Ozzy. “I said to everybody, this is so much to try and comprehend and so tough. But Ozzy would say ‘Let’s party. Let’s rock and roll. Let’s live it up, let’s enjoy.’ That was in his heart, his soul and his spirit. Whenever we did shows together he would always say to me, ‘Did you have a good time?,’” Halford explained. Halford recalled Osbourne’s generosity and caring nature, as well as his musical feats with Sabbath and as a solo act. “He was the embodiment of kindness in that respect,” he said. The leather and studs rocker suggested that we should keep talking about and celebrating Ozzy and his legacy, to get through the grief by thinking about the joy and good times. And, in Priest’s case, by continuing to perform Sabbath’s “War Pigs” at the top of their shows. Osbourne died 17 days after playing his final show, where he played a solo set and a reunion gig with the original Sabbath lineup at Birmingham’s Villa Park alongside fellow metal legends including Guns N’ Roses, Tool, Metallica, Gojira and many more.
