Gloria Gaynor Donated Thousands to Republican Campaigns

Fans were urging disco star Gloria Gaynor to “walk out the door” of the upcoming Kennedy Center Honors, but it turns out the “I Will Survive” singer has offered her financial backing to Republican causes for the last few years. A report from MediasTouch revealed that, according to FEC records, Gaynor donated almost $22,000 to right-wing politicians starting in 2023, including candidates like Mike Johnson, Josh Hawley, Ted Cruz and Marsha Blackburn. Gaynor — whose donations were recorded under her birth name Gloria Fowles — regularly processed these donations through WinRed, a Republican fundraising platform. FEC records do not show any evidence, however, that Gaynor donated directly to President Donald Trump’s re-election campaign. Billboard has reached out to Gaynor’s representatives for comment. The revelation comes just two weeks after Gaynor was announced as an honoree for the upcoming 2025 Kennedy Center Honors. The singer — along with fellow honorees KISS, George Strait, Sylvester Stallone and Michael Crawford — will be among the first to receive the prestigious award since President Donald Trump took over the institution by firing a number of board members and appointing himself as the chairman. After Gaynor was announced as an honoree for this year’s honors, many fans spoke up asking the singer — who is widely considered a gay icon thanks to her perennial anthem “I Will Survive” — not to accept the honor or attend the ceremony out of protest for Trump’s mistreatment of the LGBTQ+ community. One such fan was The View‘s Ana Navarro, who highlighted the twice-impeached president’s attacks on “the rights and history of women, people of color and LGBTQ” in her plea for Gaynor to not accept the award. Gaynor has repeatedly declined to define her political affiliations in the past. In a 2017 address to the Library of Congress, for example, Gaynor insisted that she is “not a political person” and that she was “not about to really become political.” Get weekly rundowns straight to your inbox Sign Up Source link

Offset Says He’s Done With Marriage After Cardi B Split

Don’t expect to see Offset walking down the aisle ever again. The Migos rapper shunned the idea of ever getting married again following his split from Cardi B last year. Explore See latest videos, charts and news Offset joined the Full Send Podcast last week on the heels of his KIARI album’s arrival, where he explained why he’s done with marriage. “It’s not for me. I’ve done it, had three kids with it. It’s like a mission that’s been complete,” he said. “I experienced it.” The Atlanta native continued to say that he wouldn’t recommend getting married when the podcast’s host, Kyle, asked about potentially one day tying the knot with someone. “No, I would tell you don’t get married,” he said. It’s gotten to a point where Set doesn’t believe the sacrifices to make a relationship work are worth it for him. “Even getting a girlfriend is such a big commitment — how we move, like our career. I’m tired,” he said. “Unless you’re cool with changing your life entirely… It’s different, especially when it’s written and it’s a real thing.” Offset and Cardi B got secretly married in September 2017 and had three kids during their time together: Kulture, Wave and Blossom. Cardi filed for divorce from Set for a second time in August 2024, but the case is yet to be finalized. Cardi B has since moved on and is currently dating NFL star Stefon Diggs, while Offset appears to remain single. The 33-year-old returned on Friday (Aug. 22) to deliver his anticipated KIARI album, which features assists from  YoungBoy Never Broke Again, Gunna, YFN Lucci, Ty Dolla $ign, John Legend and Key Glock. New Remix of Laufey’s ‘From the Start’ Blows Up After New Album’s Drop

Welcome to Billboard Pro’s Trending Up newsletter, where we take a closer look at the songs, artists, curiosities and trends that have caught the music industry’s attention. Some have come out of nowhere, others have taken months to catch on, and all of them could become ubiquitous in the blink of a TikTok clip.  Explore See latest videos, charts and news This week: Laufey’s new album has chart competition from a remixed song off her second album, Olivia Dean finds herself on the verge of a crossover hit and an old Rihanna fan favorite blazes anew (again). Wavy Remix of Laufey’s ‘From the Start’ Scores Streaming Gains for Multiple Versions  Laufey may have just released her new A Matter of Time album, but the lead single from her previous album is the gift that keeps on giving. “From the Start,” the first single from her Grammy-winning Bewitched sophomore studio album, has taken over TikTok thanks to a chilled-out dance remix, courtesy of Jiandro and ola.wav.  Based around a loop of the line, “Run to me, confess your love, at least just let me say,” the remix gained significant traction thanks to a dance trend created by TikTok user @life_of_temi. On Aug. 2, Temi posted his dance to TikTok, and the initial clip earned over 2.9 million views and nearly 375,000 likes. He used a sound from the snippet Jiandro posted to TikTok on July 15; the original clip of the snippet has since amassed nearly nine million views, while the accompanying sound now boasts over 488,000 clips. Jiandro’s version of the track officially hit streaming on Aug. 13.  “From the Start” was consistently pulling over three million official on-demand U.S. streams a week, but by the first full week following Temi’s video (Aug. 8-14), the song rose 5% to over 3.44 million official streams. By the next week (Aug. 15-21), the song leapt nearly 11% to over 3.82 million offiicial streams, good for 222% rise in streaming activity over the past three weeks.  In its first four days of of release (Aug. 15-18), “Confess Your Love,” Jiandro & ola.wav’s remix, earned over 418,000 official on-demand U.S. streams. Over the same period the following week (Aug. 22-25), the remix jumped a whopping 119% to over 917,000 official streams, according to early data provided by Luminate. “Confess Your Love” earned over 941,000 official streams in its first full week of release (Aug. 15-21). – KYLE DENIS ‘Man,’ Olivia Dean Feels Like a Star: New Single Enjoys Fast Start at Streaming With each new single leading up to her sophomore album, the buzz around Olivia Dean grows louder and louder: the British soul-pop singer-songwriter earned a Mercury Prize nomination with her 2023 debut Messy, but The Art of Loving, out on Sept. 26, could transform her into a cross-continental star upon its release, one month before she opens for Sabrina Carpenter’s fall run of arena shows. Previously issued tracks “Nice to Each Other” and “Lady Lady” previewed the album’s sonic warmth and sharp lyricism, but “Man I Need” — the snappy, rhythmic sing-along that sounds like it’s from a long-lost ‘90s R&B soundtrack — could become Dean’s first crossover hit, based on its early streaming growth. In its first four days on streaming services (Aug. 15-18), “Man I Need” earned 1.18 million official U.S. on-demand streams. One week later, as the song spread through word-of-mouth and started soundtracking more TikToks, that four-day total (from Aug. 22-25) had moved to 2.56 million streams — an increase of 116%, according to early data provided by Luminate. “Man I Need” has started to pop up on daily streaming charts (up to No. 21 on Spotify’s U.S. daily chart today), and has become her highest-charting solo hit in the U.K. thus far. With The Art of Loving likely to mark Dean’s Billboard 200 debut in a few weeks, “Man I Need” could also become her first Hot 100 hit ahead of it. – JASON LIPSHUTZ ‘Love Island US’ Fancam Revives Rihanna’s “Breakin’ Dishes” (Again)  Months after a wave of traction that landed the song in our Trending Up column at the top of the year, Rihanna’s “Breakin’ Dishes” is on the rise once again.  The 2007 Good Girl Gone Bad deep cut has jumped over 71% to over 4.02 million official on-demand U.S. streams during the period of Aug. 15-21, according to Luminate. The song’s initial viral trends included praise for its lyrics centering on female rage, as well as clips demonstrating the strength of various boyfriend’s timed to the “A man, a man, a ma-e-a-a-an” refrain. More recently, TikTok user @eveg.co used an unofficial snippet of “Dishes” to soundtrack a fancam reacting to the buzzy news of Love Island USA stars JaNa Craig and Kenny Rodriguez’s explosive breakup. That initial clip, which was uploaded on July 28, earned 2.2 million views and over 276,000 likes, kicking off a new trend inspired by the lines “Is he cheatin’? Man, I don’t know/ I’m lookin’ ’round for somethin’ else to throw.”  That clip thrust the song back into the TikTok zeitgeist, and the accompanying sound spawned over 130,000 videos in the weeks following. Instead of creating more fancams, TikTok users have largely used the JaNa-Kenny clip to reignite their praise for the song’s embrace of female rage.  During the week of Aug. 1-7, just days after the JaNa-Kenny fancam hit the algorithm, “Dishes” earned 2.3 million official on-demand U.S. streams. By the following week (Aug. 8-14), that figure rose 15% to over 2.71 million official streams. During the next week (Aug. 15-21), “Dishes” nealry doubled in activity, pulling over 4 million official streams.  Though “Breakin’ Dishes” was never an official single, fans have gladly embraced it 18 years later. — KD Source link

Jason Kelce Presses Travis Kelce on Taylor Swift Easter Eggs: Watch

Taylor Swift definitely dropped some major Easter eggs on New Heights a couple of weeks ago — but they’re so top-secret, even one of the podcast’s hosts doesn’t know what they are. In a hilarious moment from the latest installment of the show — which arrived Wednesday (Aug. 27) following the pop star’s cameo on the episode prior — Jason Kelce pressed his little brother for details about Swift’s new album, The Life of a Showgirl. On this week’s show, Travis Kelce confirmed that his new fiancée definitely planted some clues when she was on, but he wouldn’t say what they were. “I’m knee-deep right now in the Swiftie Easter egg hunting,” the former Philadelphia Eagles center told Travis on the new episode. “You know I am, because I keep sending you and Tay stuff I keep reading. I know you guys don’t want to read it, but I’m freaking gonna make you guys read it, because I’m interested. You guys aren’t giving me f—ing anything, which is pissing me off even more.” All Jason got in response, however, was amused laughter from Travis. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end also remained coy when the elder Kelce started pressing him about objects in his background setup, which fans online have theorized could be possible clues about Showgirl. “What’s that Pinocchio doing behind you? What’s his cause? Is it still there?” Jason urged, to which Travis simply replied, “Aren’t they Disney movies? Disney characters?” Though the Happy Gilmore 2 star didn’t spoil any of Swift’s clues, he did tease Swifties — Jason included — about the album in general. “I know [Taylor] mentioned that it’s gonna be a lot more pop beats, but it’s just still so poetic in her melodies and her references and stuff,” Travis gushed. “It’s just so much fun to listen to, man. I’ve been dancing all throughout the house.” The new episode arrived just one day after Travis and Swift announced their engagement on Instagram, sending the internet into a frenzy with photos of their garden proposal and the hitmaker’s massive diamond ring. “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” they captioned the post. Just two weeks before that, Swift made her debut on New Heights, on which she shared details about The Life of a Showgirl as well as talked about her life post-Eras Tour, purchasing her masters and falling in love with Travis. While describing her favorite things about her now-fiancé, she called him a “human exclamation point” — and on the latest New Heights, Jason said he’s definitely “stealing” that turn of phrase. “She’s incredibly brilliant, she’s very smart, she’s very funny, all of these things,” Jason said of his future sister-in-law. “When she said you were a human exclamation point, I was like, ‘Goddamn.’ Like, she is f–king good with words.” Watch the full episode of New Heights above. Tyler, the Creator Releases ‘Sucka Free’ Video

Tyler, the Creator has been outside this summer. He then heads to his listening party to dance the night away with fans. “Here’s some clips from the function we threw for [the] new album,” a message reads in the video. He previously dropped off videos for “Sugar on My Tongue” and “Darling, I,” which was a star-studded affair featuring Nia Long, Lauren London and Ayo Edebiri.
