Whoopi Goldberg Defends Carrie Underwood for Donald Trump Inauguration

Whoopi Goldberg is sticking up for Carrie Underwood after the singer came under fire for accepting the invitation to perform at Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration. While speaking to her The View cohosts Tuesday (Jan. 14), the Sister Act star acknowledged that though she personally doesn’t align with the president-elect’s policies, the American Idol alum has every right to perform wherever she sees fit. “People do what they do for whatever reasons,” Goldberg began. “I stand behind her.” “If I believe I have the right to make up my mind to go perform some place, I believe they have the same right,” the actress continued, pushing back against the objections of cohosts Joy Behar and Sunny Hostin. “I have to support. It doesn’t mean I’m particularly interested in watching [the inauguration] — I won’t be watching. But that’s me.” Goldberg’s remarks come just one day after Billboard confirmed that Underwood would take the stage at Trump’s fast-approaching presidential inauguration, a poignant move considering that the eight-time Grammy winner has refrained from sharing her political views throughout her career. Her decision sparked immediate backlash from people who oppose Trump, but the “Before He Cheats” singer explained in a statement, “I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event.” “I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future,” she added. Underwood is expected to perform “America the Beautiful” just before Trump is sworn in for the second time in eight years, with the ceremony set to take place Jan. 20 at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. Village People is also part of the lineup, with the “Y.M.C.A.” group announcing Monday (Jan. 13) that it had “accepted an invitation from President Elect Trump’s campaign to participate in inaugural activities, including at least one event with President Elect Trump.” Watch Goldberg talk about Underwood’s inauguration decision below. Mandy Moore & Family Sheltering With Hilary Duff During L.A. Wildfires

After fleeing the raging wildfire that has decimated their Altadena neighborhood in Los Angeles, Mandy Moore and her family are sheltering with the singer/actress’ friend Hilary Duff. Moore’s brother-in-law, Dawes drummer Griffin Goldsmith — brother of her husband, Dawes singer Taylor Goldsmith — revealed the kind gesture in an emotional Instagram post detailing the toll the deadly fires have had on his family. “All of this so overwhelming. But what is as equally overwhelming is the amount of love and generosity we are on the receiving end of. Our dear friends @matthewkoma and @hilaryduff thought it wise to set up a gofundme for us to help with everything moving forward. Not to mention they are currently housing my brother’s family,” Goldsmith wrote of the How I Met Your Father star and her musician husband, Matthew Koma. “They’ve taken care of my entire family from the moment this began,” he added. “I will never be able to thank them adequately. This is the kindest act any human could do for another. They are the most beautiful, selfless people we’ve ever known.” Griffin Goldsmith’s post also noted that he convinced his whole family and closest friends to move to the Altadena neighborhood years ago — including the siblings’ parents, who lived around the corner from him — only to have their homes leveled in the conflagrations that have taken 16 lives in that area as the massive Eaton Fire continues to burn after scorching more than 14,000 acres so far. “It’s Impossible to express how much we’re feeling right now. We’ve lost everything. 8 years of memories made in our house. 20 years of gear. My wife @quintessentiallykit was applying the finishing touches to the nursery for our baby boy who’s due in a few weeks,” Griffin wrote. “She had, throughout the years, poured her heart and soul into making the property a literal piece of paradise. Anyone who had the chance the visit can attest. We often would say to each other ‘I want to live together in this house for the rest of our lives.’” He said the brothers’ parents lost their home, while Taylor and Mandy were forced to flee from their house just down the street. In addition, he said his wife’s childhood best friend, Chelsey, and her family, former Dawes bassist Wylie Gelber and his wife and their first crew member and old friend, Jake, all lost their homes as well. “The thing we mourn the most is the loss of the community,” he said. See Goldsmith’s post here. Goldsmith noted that they are, of course, not the only people who are dealing with these kinds of unimaginable losses. In addition to at least two dozen deaths reported so far, more than 12,000 homes and structures destroyed or damaged and nearly 100,000 Angelenos under evacuation orders, officials warned on Tuesday (Jan. 14) that the powerful Santa Ana winds that are driving the spread of the fires are expected to pick up again, with critical red flag warnings in place across much of southwestern California. Dawes played an emotional version of their 2011 tribute to their city, “Time Spent in Los Angeles,” on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday night (Jan. 13), with images of the devastation playing on screens behind them. Luckily for Moore and Goldsmith, their home was not a complete loss, but the This Is Us star hit back at haters who tried to shame her last week for posting a GoFundMe for her in-laws, who, as Griffin mentioned, are expecting their first child in a few weeks. “People questioning whether we’re helping out our own family or attributing some arbitrary amount of money Google says someone has is NOT helpful or empathetic,” Moore wrote. “Of course we are. Our buddy Matt started this GoFundMe and I’m sharing because people have asked how they can help them. We just lost most of our life in a fire too. Kindly F OFF. No one is forcing you to do anything.” The fires, which are the most destructive blazes in the city’s history, continue to burn, with the Palisades Fires just 17% contained to date, while the Eaton Fire is 35% contained and the Hurst Fire is 97% contained; three other smaller fires are reportedly now 100% contained. Cardi B Uses Taylor Swift Meme to Declare She’s Done ‘Acting Nice’

Cardi B might just be in her Reputation era. The rapper posted on X Tuesday (Jan. 14) that she’s had it with “acting nice,” using a hilarious Taylor Swift meme to get her point across. Cardi told followers, “I was acting nice and nonchalant but today I’m going to violate and show the real me 🙂” The “WAP” musician didn’t specify what grievance inspired her post, but to illustrate her point, she did attach a video of the Eras Tour headliner performing at the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge in 2019. Instead of the original audio, however, the clip of Swift is paired with what sounds like a snippet of Beyoncé absolutely going off while riffing during a live performance of “Crazy in Love.” Cardi’s post comes less than a week after an update to her long-running legal battle with gossip blogger Tasha K, who claimed in a new response motion that the Grammy winner is trying to “sabotage” her career. Weeks prior, Cardi’s legal team had submitted a claim to a federal bankruptcy judge accusing Tasha of hiding money to avoid paying the rapper nearly $4 million in damages, which a federal jury awarded Cardi in 2022 after finding the blogger’s past claims about the star defamatory. In the new filing, Tasha’s attorneys countered by saying Cardi had failed to “identify a cent of undisclosed value.” The “Up” musician is also still at odds with Offset, from whom she split in July after seven years of marriage. The two stars — who share three children — were still very publicly hammering out their divorce as of mid-December, with Cardi at one point posting on X at her ex, “F–k off and sign the papers TODAY.” “When u split the custody I will [sign the papers],” the Migos rapper countered at the time. As for her thoughts on the subject of her meme of choice Tuesday, Cardi has only had positive things to say about Swift. In 2021, the hip-hop star praised the “Karma” singer’s “All Too Well” short film, and last year, Cardi gushed about the singer-songwriter’s relationship with Travis Kelce. “I think it’s cute,” Cardi said of the couple last February. “She looks so happy. I feel like she’s really private with her relationships, so I really feel like she likes him a lot because she’s like, ‘I don’t give a f—. I’m going to kiss him. I’m going to touch him. I’m going to kiss him! Yeah, I’m here. Yeah, I’m taking a jet to see my man.’” See Cardi’s tweet below. Source link

Coldplay Releasing 44-Minute Short Movie ‘A Film For the Future’

Coldplay are gearing up to release a short film they’ve been low-key teasing for almost five years. The band announced the new project, A Film For the Future, on Tuesday morning (Jan. 14), calling the 44-minute movie a visual companion to their recent album Moon Music, which became their first Billboard 200 No. 1 album in 10 years last year. The film will premiere worldwide on YouTube on Jan. 22 via 360-degree screenings at the Lightroom in London, the Lightroom at Factory International at Aviva Studios in Manchester and Lightroom Seoul in Seoul, South Korea; that same day a fan-led remix of the movie powered by Microsoft AI will launch here. A minute-long trailer describes the creative process for compiling the footage for the film, which began in the summer of 2024, when more than 150 visual artists from 45 countries were given a handful of short Moon Music audio snippets and asked to create some accompanying visuals. According to a release announcing, “there were no rules or guidelines, and no knowledge of other artists’ creations,” as well as no direction other than to follow their inspiration. “We’re very grateful to all the amazing artists who lent their genius to this film,” the band said in a statement. “They’ve created something very beautiful and we’re extremely proud of it.” The ensuing preview features a wild mash-up of visual styles, from trippy digital collage to dancing AI bubble people, photo montage, found footage, nature visuals and animation. Executive producer Ben Mor — who directed the 2016 video for the Coldplay/Beyoncé collab “Hymn For the Weekend” — called the resulting Koyaanisqatsi-like visual mindtrip a “kaleidoscopic patchwork quilt — a 44-minute multimedia tapestry.” He added, “It was a huge privilege to have the bird’s eye view of such an ambitious project, working with so many incredible animators and filmmakers all working independently of each other. The final film is simply jaw-dropping and I can’t wait for Coldplay’s fans to see it.” Tickets for the three immersive screenings — where the film will be projected on a 36-foot screen across four walls and the floor — can be purchased here, while other fans can tune in worldwide on the band’s YouTube page on Jan. 22. The release noted that Coldplay have been working a long con on fans since 2019, when they first teased the movie on a license plate in the artwork for their Everyday Life album that read “FFTF2024.” In addition, a segment of the project appeared in the July 2024 multi-media lyric video for their Moon Music single “feelslikeimfallinginlove.” The AI-powered remix project will use Microsoft Copilot and Azure AI to create a unique, immersive experience for each user, with no two results the same. Coldplay’s record-breaking Music of the Spheres world tour was back on the road last week for a four-show run of stadium shows in Abu Dhabi; they will move on to Mumbai, India on January 18 for three gigs at DY Patil Stadium. Mary J. Blige’s ‘Only One’ Is No. 1 on Adult R&B Airplay Chart

Mary J. Blige enters a select club as just the fourth artist to earn at least 10 No. 1s on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart. The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul achieves the feat on the list dated Jan. 18, as “You Ain’t the Only One” rises 3-1 to become her 10th career leader on the radio ranking. “You Ain’t the Only One” crowns the chart as the most-played song on U.S. panel-contributing adult R&B radio stations in the tracking week of Jan. 3-9, according to Luminate. It improved 22% in plays for the tracking week compared with the prior week. The huge leap earns Blige’s single the weekly Greatest Gainer award, given to the song with the largest gain in plays at the format. With the new champ, Blige nabs her 10th No. 1 on Adult R&B Airplay and ties Charlie Wilson for the third-most leaders among all acts since the chart launched in 1993. The pair trails only Alicia Keys (14) and Toni Braxton (11) on the overall leaderboard. Last November, “You Ain’t the Only One” became Blige’s record-extending 28th top 10 on the radio chart. Keys ranks second in that count, with 24 top 10s, while Gerald Levert and R. Kelly share the third-place mark, at 22 each. Here’s a recap of Blige’s No. 1 collection on the Adult R&B Airplay chart: “Not Gon’ Cry,” four weeks at No. 1, beginning March 2, 1996 “Be Without You,” 14, Feb. 4, 2006 “Take Me As I Am,” one, Jan. 27, 2007 “IfULeave,” Musiq Soulchild featuring Mary. J. Blige, eight, Jan. 10, 2009 “Thick of It,” 16, Nov. 12, 2016 “U + Me (Love Lesson),” three, May 6, 2017 “Good Morning Gorgeous,” four, Feb. 26, 2022 “Still Believe in Love,” featuring Vado, eight, Dec. 30, 2023 “Breathing,” featuring Fabolous, one, Oct. 26, 2024 “You Ain’t The Only One,” one (to date), Jan. 18, 2025 Notably, Blige has topped Adult R&B Airplay with her last three appearances on the list. The three-single streak rewrites the personal best for the R&B legend, who previously notched back-to-back winners with “Thick of It” and “U + Me (Love Lesson).” Elsewhere, “You Ain’t the Only One” repeats at its No. 18 peak for a third, nonconsecutive week on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart, which ranks songs by combined audience totals from adult R&B and mainstream R&B/hip-hop radio stations. There, the single reaches 6.7 million in format audience, up 24% from the prior week and enough to secure the Greatest Gainer award. “You Ain’t the Only One” appears on Blige’s Gratitude album, released in November. Zach Top on ‘I Never Lie,’ Tour & What He Loves About Country Music

The future of country music has an old-school sound. Newcomer Zach Top is leading a neo-traditional revival thanks to his debut album, 2024’s Cold Beer & Country Music, which brims with his distinct twang and songs inspired by country music that was popular three and four decades ago. Diana King Diana King Growing up in Sunnyside, Wash., Top soaked in the songs of artists like Keith Whitley and George Strait and immersed himself in bluegrass and old-time country during his guitar lessons. Top and his siblings launched a family bluegrass band, and he later began playing with a Seattle-based bluegrass group — but his heart was always in country music. Producer, writer and tour manager Carson Chamberlain, known for his work with Whitley and Alan Jackson, reached out after he saw one of the videos Top had posted of himself on Facebook. By the time he moved to Nashville in 2021, Top had begun co-writing with Chamberlain and other songwriting luminaries, “guys that wrote the hits that I grew up on and that made me love country music,” he says. “One of my favorite parts of the process of making music is getting to create it yourself,” the 27-year-old Top explains. “It makes a little more of an intimate connection with the song when it’s coming from something you lived and you make something universal out of it.” Zach Top photographed December 2, 2024 in Franklin, Tenn. Diana King Diana King This digital cover story is part of Billboard’s Genre Now package, highlighting the artists pushing their musical genres forward — and even creating their own new ones. Those writing and recording sessions became Cold Beer & Country Music, which includes Top’s breakthrough songs such as “Bad Luck” and the ’90s country throwback “Sounds Like the Radio,” which reached the top 20 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart. The album also featured “I Never Lie,” which became his Billboard Hot 100 debut and also reached the Hot Country Songs top 10. Top scored a Country Music Association Awards nomination for new artist of the year, spent much of 2024 on the road opening for Lainey Wilson and will be direct support for Jackson’s Last Call: One More for the Road Tour in 2025, along with headlining his own tour. But even as Top looks to the future, he says what makes great country music remains timeless. “Three chords and the truth are necessary. A fiddle and steel guitar never hurt. But it’s songs that make people feel something and something that’s got a story to it. That’s what I love about country music — songs that make me feel understood, no matter what stage of life I’m in.” This story appears in the Jan. 11, 2025, issue of Billboard. Source link

Dawes Perform Heartbreaking Tribute to L.A. Amid Fires on ‘Kimmel’

When you love the place you live, you keep it in your heart, even if that place isn’t there anymore. That was the monumental task for Dawes singer Taylor Goldsmith and brother drummer Griffin Goldsmith when they performed “Time Spent in Los Angeles,” a 2011 homage to their hometown, on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday night (Jan. 13). The emotional, stripped-down take on the song from the band’s Nothing Is Wrong album came less than a week after Taylor lost his home studio and most of the band’s musical gear and equipment and Griffin’s home in Altadena burned to the ground in one of the biggest wildfires still burning in Los Angeles. Sitting on a chair and strumming an acoustic guitar, Taylor sang the tune’s melancholy opening lines, “These days my friends don’t seem to know me/ Without my suitcase in my hand/ Where I am standing still/ I seem to disappear,” as an image of a “Welcome to Altadena” postcard flashed behind them. As they played, images of firefighters battling the blazes, displaced Angelenos assessing the damage and the unimaginable destruction caused by the Santa Ana wind-fueled conflagrations rolled behind them, with Taylor, his eyes shut tight, singing, “But you got that special kind of sadness/ You got that tragic set of charms/ That only comes from times spent in Los Angeles/ Makes me wanna wrap you in my arms.” The performance was in support of MusiCares, which, in coordination with the Recording Academy has launched the Los Angeles Fire Relief Effort to support musicians impacted by the crisis. In an Instagram post before the appearance, they wrote, “In an incredibly dark time, @jimmykimmellive has asked us to come sing a song about the city we love tonight. It’s not a joyous occasion for music, but hopefully a cathartic one amidst all this chaos.” In an earlier post featuring images of the ashen remnants of their homes and properties, Griffin wrote, “It’s impossible to express how much we’re feeling right now. We’ve lost everything. 8 years of memories made in our house. 20 years of gear. My wife @quintessentiallykit was applying the finishing touches to the nursery for our baby boy who’s due in a few weeks. She had, throughout the years, poured her heart and soul into making the property a literal piece of paradise.” He continued, “Anyone who had the chance the visit can attest. We often would say to each other ‘I want to live together in this house for the rest of our lives’. We had convinced our whole family and closest friends to join us in Altadena. Our parents were around the corner. They lost their house as well. Taylor and [wife] Mandy [Moore] are just down the street. Kit’s best childhood best friend Chelsey and her husband Michael live about six blocks away. Wylie and his wife Clara are two blocks from us. Our first crew member and very old friend, Jake, and his wife Andy are just down the street. All of these houses are gone. The thing we mourn the most is the loss of the community.” Last week, Moore posted about fleeing the fires that have raged across the L.A. region for the past week, grateful that she and her family were able to make it out safely, while mourning the destruction of her children’s school, friends and family who lost everything and the unimaginable toll on their beloved city of Altadena, which has been decimated by the Eaton Fire. To date, that blaze has burned more than 14,000 acres and killed 16 people while only being 33% contained at press time, even as officials warn of another round of fierce windstorms in the days ahead; to date the fires have killed at least 24, with officials saying the death toll could rise once they are able to assess the damage. A number of resources are available for those who have lost their homes or need assistance in other ways. The MusiCares and the Recording Academy Los Angeles Fire Relief Effort will help music professionals impacted by the crisis, with a combined pledge of $1 million to kick off the efforts. People who have worked in the music industry for more than five years may qualify for immediate assistance, including up to $1,500 in financial aid and $500 in food vouchers. Monday night’s Kimmel! was the show’s first after a week off in the midst of the fires that have become the most destructive in the state’s history. Host Jimmy Kimmel opened the show with an emotional monologue about the impact of the fires on his staff and fellow Angelenos, verging on tears as he praised the brave firefighters who have been working around the clock to save lives and property. Kimmel has opened an L.A. fire resource donation center on the backlot of his shot to gather essential items for those displaced by the fires. Watch Dawes on Kimmel below. Source link

Snoop Dogg Praises Firefighters, Hints at Benefit Concert on ‘Kimmel’

Jimmy Kimmel Live! resumed its broadcast on Jan. 13, following a brief hiatus caused by the devastating Los Angeles wildfires. Opening the show, Kimmel delivered a heartfelt monologue reflecting on the tragedy that has displaced thousands and destroyed countless homes, including those of his own colleagues. He lauded the bravery of first responders, firefighters, and volunteers who have stepped up in the city’s time of need. Amid the heavy atmosphere, Kimmel turned to a figure synonymous with resilience and community, introducing his guest Snoop Dogg as “a worldwide ambassador for Los Angeles.” The legendary rapper, known for his strong ties to his hometown, didn’t hold back as he spoke candidly about the disaster’s impact and his personal efforts to assist those affected. Explore See latest videos, charts and news See latest videos, charts and news “The family’s good, but I know people I consider family who lost everything,” Snoop shared. “So we did what we do—we came together, pulled our troops together, and made sure they had what they needed.” Reflecting on the unity he’s seen in the face of disaster, Snoop said, “California, this is like our first time dealing with [wildfires], and the way the world is helping us—that’s the important thing. People aren’t looking at differences; they’re just looking at trying to make a difference.” Snoop’s reverence for firefighters took center stage, with the rapper calling their work “the toughest job” and emphasizing the often-overlooked heroism they display. “They don’t never get no credit, and they always show up and they do what’s best,” Snoop said. “And when the job is over with, it’s like they’re forgotten about. But we need to give them a lot of praise right now—I give them a lot.” Snoop described his hands-on approach to disaster relief, ensuring donations reach those in need. “A lot of times when we put these donations together, certain people don’t get it,” he explained. “What my team does is go on the ground, make direct connects, and make sure we’re not missing anybody. That’s what we do—it’s about love, man.” Reflecting on a false evacuation alert, he recalled, “I got three phones, and they all blew up. I started running, started packing, and then it was like, ‘It’s not real.’ See, now y’all playing games.” Kimmel seized the moment to ask if the rapper still sets off smoke alarms wherever he goes. Snoop’s response, delivered with a grin, left the audience in stitches: “Not anymore. We have a shower cap technique that we use.” To demonstrate, Snoop stood up and mimed placing a shower cap over a smoke detector, humorously acting out the move by climbing onto Kimmel’s couch, drawing roaring laughter from the audience. Kimmel quipped, “Especially at this time, that is very bad advice from Snoop Dogg!” Amid the weighty topics of wildfires and community resilience, Snoop shared an anecdote about meeting Paul McCartney, describing it as a surreal and deeply respectful moment. “It was about just respect and love,” he said, recalling the encounter. “He really knew who I was musically—that blew my mind. I’m telling him about all the records I like from him, but then he’s telling me about who I am and how he liked me. It’s just appreciation. I call that mutual love, fan appreciation.” When Kimmel asked if the two had smoked together, Snoop laughed and clarified, “Oh no, no—but I smoked around him.” Later in the chat, the host praised Snoop’s ongoing community contributions, from organizing relief efforts to his long-standing youth football league, which has helped countless kids achieve their dreams, including NFL stardom. The Doggfather, ever humble, turned the spotlight back on the collective effort. “There was talks about concerts to raise money for the victims and the people that have lost in this situation,” he said. “So I think that’s more of the angle that I would be leaning towards—to do a concert and not, you know, be paid, and take my proceeds and the proceeds from the tickets and make sure that the people got something.” Watch Snoop Dogg’s latest appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! here. Village People to Perform at Donald Trump’s Inaugural Events

Village People have joined the presidential inaugural activities for Donald Trump. The group took to Facebook on Monday (Jan. 13) to announce that they have “accepted an invitation from President Elect Trump’s campaign to participate in inaugural activities, including at least one event with President Elect Trump.” They continued, “We know this wont make some of you happy to hear however we believe that music is to be performed without regard to politics. Our song Y.M.C.A. is a global anthem that hopefully helps bring the country together after a tumultuous and divided campaign where our preferred candidate lost.” Explore Explore See latest videos, charts and news See latest videos, charts and news The statement concluded, “Therefore, we believe it’s now time to bring the country together with music which is why VILLAGE PEOPLE will be performing at various events as part of the 2025 Inauguration of Donald J. Trump.” See the post here. According to The Hill, the group will perform at Trump’s “victory rally” at Capital One Arena in Washington, and at the Liberty Inaugural Ball. “Macho Man” and “Y.M.C.A.” were popular song choices at Trump campaign rallies during his 2020 and 2024 campaign rallies. In December, Village People’s Victor Willis doubled down on why he chose to let the president-elect play “Y.M.C.A.” at rallies and events, saying he “didn’t have the heart” to block the usage — despite originally asking Trump to stop in 2020 — upon realizing that the politician seemed to “genuinely like” and was “having a lot of fun” with “Y.M.C.A.” Plus, as Willis noted, the dance tune has only “benefited greatly” in terms of chart placements and sales since the twice-impeached former POTUS incorporated it into his campaign. Earlier in the day, it was revealed that Carrie Underwood will be performing at the presidential inauguration ceremony on Monday, Jan. 20, at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.. The eight-time Grammy winner will perform “America the Beautiful,” accompanied by The Armed Forces Chorus and the The United States Naval Academy Glee Club. She shared to Billboard via a statement, “I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event. I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.” Source link

Beyoncé Delays Announcement Amid LA Wildfire Crisis

Beyoncé has postponed her much-speculated Jan. 14 announcement, citing respect for those affected by the devastating Los Angeles wildfires. The news comes after weeks of fan speculation that the “Texas Hold ‘Em” singer was preparing to unveil her Cowboy Carter tour, following a stunning halftime show performance on Christmas Day at the Baltimore Ravens vs. Houston Texans game. In a statement shared on Instagram on Jan 13., the singer expressed solidarity with families and communities grappling with the aftermath of the fires, which have destroyed homes and displaced thousands. Explore Explore See latest videos, charts and news See latest videos, charts and news “The January 14th announcement will be postponed to a later date due to the devastation caused by the ongoing wildfires around areas of Los Angeles,” Beyoncé wrote. “I continue to pray for healing and rebuilding for the families suffering from trauma and loss. We are so blessed to have brave first responders who continue to work tirelessly to protect the Los Angeles community.” For those who wish to support wildfire relief efforts, Beyoncé encouraged fans to visit BeyGOOD’s page. “Love, B,” she concluded. The wildfires have deeply affected Beyoncé’s family as well. Her mother, Tina Knowles, revealed on Jan. 9 that her beloved Malibu bungalow—her “sacred happy place”—was destroyed in the fires. “It was my favorite place, my sanctuary,” Knowles wrote on Instagram, alongside a video of dolphins swimming near the home’s former location. Beyoncé’s announcement had been teased in December with a cinematic video shared on her social media. The clip featured the 32-time Grammy winner straddling a white stallion, swinging a large American flag in slow motion as a Western trumpet theme played over the sound of a stampede. The video concluded with the cryptic date “1.14.25” and the caption, “Look at that horse.” Though the video revealed no further details, fans immediately began speculating about a possible Cowboy Carter tour, a theory bolstered when Live Nation shared the teaser on its social media channels. The news follows a significant contribution from Beyoncé’s BeyGOOD Foundation, which pledged $2.5 million to assist families in recovery from the devastating California wildfires. In an Instagram post on Sunday night (Jan. 12), the foundation announced the pledge to the L.A. Fire Relief Fund aimed at helping impacted Los Angelenos in the midst of one of the most destructive wildfires in the state’s history. “The fund is earmarked to aid families in the Altadena/Pasadena area who lost their homes, and to churches and community centers to address the immediate needs of those affected by the wildfires,” read the post, which encouraged followers to show their support for the impacted families by visiting the organization’s website. Earlier today, The Weeknd announced he would be delaying the release of his highly anticipated album Hurry Up Tomorrow in light of the ongoing wildfire crisis. His album release show at the Rose Bowl, which had been slated for Jan. 25, has also been canceled. The hitmaker broke the news to fans Monday (Jan. 13) with a post on Instagram. “Out of respect and concern for the people of Los Angeles County, the Rose Bowl Show has been cancelled and the album date has been postponed to 01.31.25,” reads the message, which he signed, “With love, Abel.” Source link
