KPop Demon Hunters Return to Slay the ARIA Albums Chart Once Again

After just one week away from the top spot, the KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack has made its return to the No. 1 position on the ARIA Albums Chart once again. In early August, the soundtrack marked its fourth consecutive week spent in the No. 1 position, becoming the longest-running chart-topping album from an animated film since Trolls led for three weeks back in 2017. Explore See latest videos, charts and news After a week spent at No. 2 to allow Adelaide hip-hop outfit the Hilltop Hoods the chance to receive their seventh chart-topping album, the soundtrack has once again resumed its familiar position, marking a total of five non-consecutive weeks at the top of the podium. The top end of the chart is rounded out by a handful of new releases, with 100 Times Around the Sun – the latest record from the 2003 Australian Idol winner, Guy Sebastian – sitting at No. 2, while MGK’s Lost Americana follows behind. Cold Chisel take up the No. 4 spot with their The Big Five-O Live set, and Ethel Cain sits at No. 5 with Willoughby Tucker, I’ll Always Love You. For the former, it’s their tenth live collection to make the charts. Only a handful of other new releases can be found in the remainder of the top 50, including Ninajirachi’s I Love My Computer at No. 18, Babymetal’s Metal Forth at No. 30, JIID’s God Does Like Ugly at No. 42 and Good Charlotte’s Motel Du Cap at No. 47. Over on the Singles Chart, the tune is rather familiar, with five of the top ten tracks found on the KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack, including the No. 1 track “Golden,” which celebrates its third week atop the chart. The top ten does feature a few different faces though, including Alex Warren’s ‘Ordinary,” Justin Bieber’s “Daisies,” and Disco Lines and Tinashe’s “No Broke Boys” in the Nos. 2-4 positions, respectively. Sombr’s “Back to Friends” sits at No. 8, while Chappell Roan’s “The Subway” rounds out the top ten. Elsewhere, the remainder of the top 50 is all but a reshuffling of last week’s positions, with no new entries to be found in the chart at all. Source link

TV on the Radio & Perfume Genius Lead Australia’s Meredith Music Fest

Australia’s Meredith Music Festival has announced the lineup for its 33rd edition, with the likes of TV on the Radio, Perfume Genius and Colin Hay leading the charge. Explore See latest videos, charts and news The annual festival, held in the regional town of Meredith, is regarded as one of the country’s most respected and acclaimed events, thanks largely to its programming, its communal aspect and the positive ethos that it embraces. Taking place across three days from Dec. 5-7, the forthcoming edition of the event sees the Australian return of New York City art rock ensemble TV on the Radio after a ten-year absence, the Down Under debut of J-pop outfit Atarashii Gakko!, and a return visit from Perfume Genius. Other heavy hitters include the likes of Men at Work frontman Colin Hay, acclaimed soul trio Thee Sacred Souls, and U.K. rapper Pa Salieu. A raft of local names also make up the diverse offering, including Folk B–ch Trio, Mildlife, RONA., Radio Free Alice ,Dr Sure’s Unusual Practice and many others. As is typical for the Meredith Music Festival, ticket sales are only available via a ballot system, which remains open until 10:33pm AEST on Tuesday, Aug. 19. The Meredith Music Festival first launched in 1991 as what organizers described as a “party for about 200 people.” In the ensuing years, the event has grown significantly, now annually bringing in myriad international acts such as Kraftwek, Jami xx, Laim Gallagher, The Breeders, Billy Bragg and more in recent years. “It’s now a little vaster, a bit deeper, there’s more pageantry than in its infancy,” organizers explain. “It’s been an experiment in propagation. What was planted one year harvested the next. The spirit of ‘91 preserved and evolved, an epigenetic mutation that’s retained the original strain of DNA.” Alongside its commitment to curating eclectic lineups and offering a unique communal experience for all attendees, the Meredith Music Festival is also famed for its “no d–khead policy,” which has existed since its earliest events.  “In part it means looking after yourself and others,” the festival’s website explains. “Just as importantly, it means treating each other with respect.” Source link

The Terrys Cover Black Sabbath’s ‘Changes’ for ‘Like a Version’

Australian indie rock quintet The Terrys have paid tribute to the late Ozzy Osbourne, covering Black Sabbath‘s “Changes” for their recent appearance on Like a Version, the long-running covers segment from Australian radio station triple j. Explore See latest videos, charts and news Fresh from the release of their self-titled third album in early July, the Gerringong outfit made their return to the triple j studios to perform both an original song and a cover, as is customary for the segment. The group launched their appearance with a rendition of the hidden vinyl-only track “Snake Oil,” which received a wider release just last week. For the cover portion, the group set their sights on a recently-departed icon, taking on Black Sabbath’s “Changes.” Originally released on 1972’s Vol. 4, “Changes” was a stylistic departure for the English heavy metal pioneers, showing a softer side to their typically-manacing sound. It’s long been considered one of their finest moments, with Osbourne later covering the track with daughter Kelly for her debut album of the same name in 2003. That version of the track would top the charts in the U.K., giving Osbourne his first-ever No. 1. “We couldn’t just cover ‘Iron Man’ or something because we’re not that kind of band,” explained vocalist Jacob Finch in a post-performance interview. “So this was the one; this was always gonna be the one, for sure. It’s one of those tracks that gets you right in the heart.” Osbourne passed away on Tuesday (July 22) at the age of 76, just 17 days after making his final appearance as part of the Back to the Beginning concert in his hometown of Birmingham, England. Having first launched in 2004, the Like a Version series has gone from being a near-impromptu acoustic affair to featuring larger studio productions. Numerous artists have taken part over the past two decades, with the likes of Billie Eilish, Childish Gambino, Arctic Monkeys, and more reinventing classic tracks in the process. Nick Cave & Bryce Dessner Pen Title Track for Netflix’s ‘Train Dreams’

Nick Cave and The National‘s Bryce Dessner have joined forces to compose the title track to the new Netflix film, Train Dreams. The film, which premiered at Sundance in January, receives a wider release in November. Directed by Clint Bentley, it’s based on the 2011 novella by late author Denis Johnson, with Joel Edgerton, Felicity Jones, Kerry Condon and William H. Macy cast in main roles. While Dessner composed the film’s score, his collaboration with Cave plays over the film’s end credits, having co-produced the track alongside Luis Almau. Explore See latest videos, charts and news “When we started thinking about making a song for the film, Nick felt like the perfect artist to do it,” Bentley said of Cave’s involvement. “It turns out that Train Dreams is one of his all-time favorite books, but he initially feared there wouldn’t be time to do something because he was getting ready to go on tour.  “Then he watched the film and was inspired to write something and the whole thing came together really quickly.” Bentley notes that while he was certain Cave would create something “beautiful and resonant,” he felt slight apprehension of the final result being something that captures the emotive tone of the film’s conclusion. “But Nick and I were very much on the same page from the outset,” he explained. “He read some early lyrics to me that he was working on and I was just really a bit overwhelmed with the whole situation — I’ve been a fan of his for such a long time and there I was, not only having a really lovely conversation with him about life and art, but he was also reading lyrics to me that he was writing for a film I made. It was a really special moment.” Train Dreams will be released to theatres on Nov. 7 ahead of a Netflix premiere two weeks later on Nov. 21. The film’s soundtrack will receive a digital release on Nov. 7 with a vinyl issue arriving the following week on Nov. 14. Hear a preview of the Cave and Dessner’s “Train Dreams” below. Source link

Sabrina Carpenter, Caitlin Clark React

Some of music’s best showgirls are coming together to celebrate Taylor Swift‘s new album announcement, with Sabrina Carpenter, Cardi B, Nicki Minaj and several more stars sharing their reactions to the news on social media in the past 24 hours. The “Espresso” singer, who is featured on the title track of Swift’s upcoming The Life of a Showgirl LP was understandably particularly pumped about the news. On her Instagram Story, Carpenter wrote, “i know someone who’s freaking out and it’s me.” Minaj simply reshared Swift’s Instagram post about the album and typed a Sagittarius emoji — a nod to the two women’s shared star sign — while Cardi hilariously posted a screenshot of Spongebob Squarepants breathing a sigh of relief on X. The “WAP” artist is also gearing up to release an album, Am I the Drama?, on Sept. 19, and is likely resting easier knowing that she won’t have to compete with the pop superstar for first-week streams. The stars’ reactions come shortly after Swift formally announced The Life of a Showgirl on Tuesday (Aug. 12), the day after which she shared more details about the full-length on boyfriend Travis Kelce’s New Heights podcast. According to the hitmaker, the Max Martin- and Shellback-produced LP is full of “bangers” and dives deep into what happened in her personal life “behind the scenes” of her two-year Eras Tour, which wrapped in December. Other famous friends who joined in on Swiftie excitement over the album news were Flavor Flav and Caitlin Clark, both of whom have been open about their love of the 14-time Grammy winner in the past. The Public Enemy rapper wrote on X, “That’s the Life of a Showgirl,!! TS12” and filled out New Heights‘ excuse form reading, “Please excuse Flavor Flav from any responsibilities on Wednesday Aug. 12th at 7:00 p.m. ET. Don’t blame me, but Taylor Swift will be appearing on the New Heights podcast.” The WNBA superstar also definitely tuned into the podcast. After the episode’s premiere on YouTube — which raked in a record 1.3 million live viewers — glitched and blacked out before it was finished, Clark wrote on X, “Swifties so powerful we broke the internet.” Other famous faces put their own spin on Swift’s eye-popping Life of a Showgirl album cover, which shows the musician in a revealing bedazzled leotard while partially submerged in water. John Stamos, for one, photoshopped a picture of himself in Swift’s place on the cover, writing on Instagram, “big reputation.” More celebrities showed their support for Swift by liking her post announcing the album on Instagram, including Selena Gomez, Gracie Abrams, Ice Spice, Maren Morris, Maggie Rogers and Jack Antonoff. Those names are just a few of the countless Swifties who are bursting with excitement over the promise of new Taylor Swift music. Arriving Oct. 3, The Life of a Showgirl will mark her first album since 2024’s The Tortured Poets Department, which spent 17 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. And while TTPD was more focused on poetry-style lyrics, Swift promised on New Heights that Showgirl will mark a return to the hookiness of some of her past hits. “[The album is] a lot more upbeat, and it’s a lot more fun pop excitement,” she said on New Heights. “My main goals were melodies that were so infectious, you’re almost angry at it.” Source link

Doja Cat ‘Vie’ Album Release Date Revealed in French Trailer: Watch

Doja Cat is putting her French lessons to use, as the Grammy-winning artist revealed the release date for her upcoming Vie album. Doja posted a trailer for the project on social media on Thursday (Aug. 14), which found her leaning into cosplaying a mademoiselle while speaking French (Vie translates to Live in English). “Je sais que tu es ma vie Vie out 9/26,” she captioned the cinematic clip, positioning her album for a Sept. 26 arrival. The video finds Doja in various sophisticated outfits as she changes from Black lace to white fur and a sparkling diamond ballroom gown. One shot even finds Doja in couture in front of the Eiffel Tower during a recent trip to Paris. “You’re here?” she says while the camera pans to another version of herself. “Of course I am,” Doja replies while taking a bite of her croissant. Fans were excited to hear a firm release date for the long-awaited album, which is Doja’s first since 2023’s Scarlet. “AHH WE ARE SATTTTT,” one person wrote. While another added: “Yesss Ms. Doja Jones!!!” Earlier this month, Doja Cat teased her upcoming “Jealous Type” single, which will set the table for the album. The teaser came with a phone number for a Vie hotline, while callers were greeted by Doja playing the role of romance therapist. “Jealous Type” is slated to be released on Aug. 21 at 8 p.m. ET. Doja Cat hasn’t released any singles this year and has been tight-lipped about the project, but revealed in her V Magazine cover story in July that it’s a “pop-driven” effort. “I do want to be self-aware enough to admit the fact that this is a pop-driven project,” she said at the time. “I know that I can make pop music, and pop is just that it’s popular. It starts to become a bit of a thing that’s viewed as a sport by people who are just bystanders to it, who enjoy it, but maybe also don’t respect it or what it is, which is just music … They see it as if this is some kind of football for girls and gays.” Watch the trailer below and look for Vie on Sept. 26.
