Nick Cave & Bryce Dessner Pen Title Track for Netflix’s ‘Train Dreams’

Nick Cave and The National‘s Bryce Dessner have joined forces to compose the title track to the new Netflix film, Train Dreams. The film, which premiered at Sundance in January, receives a wider release in November. Directed by Clint Bentley, it’s based on the 2011 novella by late author Denis Johnson, with Joel Edgerton, Felicity Jones, Kerry Condon and William H. Macy cast in main roles. While Dessner composed the film’s score, his collaboration with Cave plays over the film’s end credits, having co-produced the track alongside Luis Almau. Explore See latest videos, charts and news “When we started thinking about making a song for the film, Nick felt like the perfect artist to do it,” Bentley said of Cave’s involvement. “It turns out that Train Dreams is one of his all-time favorite books, but he initially feared there wouldn’t be time to do something because he was getting ready to go on tour.  “Then he watched the film and was inspired to write something and the whole thing came together really quickly.” Bentley notes that while he was certain Cave would create something “beautiful and resonant,” he felt slight apprehension of the final result being something that captures the emotive tone of the film’s conclusion. “But Nick and I were very much on the same page from the outset,” he explained. “He read some early lyrics to me that he was working on and I was just really a bit overwhelmed with the whole situation — I’ve been a fan of his for such a long time and there I was, not only having a really lovely conversation with him about life and art, but he was also reading lyrics to me that he was writing for a film I made. It was a really special moment.” Train Dreams will be released to theatres on Nov. 7 ahead of a Netflix premiere two weeks later on Nov. 21. The film’s soundtrack will receive a digital release on Nov. 7 with a vinyl issue arriving the following week on Nov. 14. Hear a preview of the Cave and Dessner’s “Train Dreams” below. Source link

Sabrina Carpenter, Caitlin Clark React

Some of music’s best showgirls are coming together to celebrate Taylor Swift‘s new album announcement, with Sabrina Carpenter, Cardi B, Nicki Minaj and several more stars sharing their reactions to the news on social media in the past 24 hours. The “Espresso” singer, who is featured on the title track of Swift’s upcoming The Life of a Showgirl LP was understandably particularly pumped about the news. On her Instagram Story, Carpenter wrote, “i know someone who’s freaking out and it’s me.” Minaj simply reshared Swift’s Instagram post about the album and typed a Sagittarius emoji — a nod to the two women’s shared star sign — while Cardi hilariously posted a screenshot of Spongebob Squarepants breathing a sigh of relief on X. The “WAP” artist is also gearing up to release an album, Am I the Drama?, on Sept. 19, and is likely resting easier knowing that she won’t have to compete with the pop superstar for first-week streams. The stars’ reactions come shortly after Swift formally announced The Life of a Showgirl on Tuesday (Aug. 12), the day after which she shared more details about the full-length on boyfriend Travis Kelce’s New Heights podcast. According to the hitmaker, the Max Martin- and Shellback-produced LP is full of “bangers” and dives deep into what happened in her personal life “behind the scenes” of her two-year Eras Tour, which wrapped in December. Other famous friends who joined in on Swiftie excitement over the album news were Flavor Flav and Caitlin Clark, both of whom have been open about their love of the 14-time Grammy winner in the past. The Public Enemy rapper wrote on X, “That’s the Life of a Showgirl,!! TS12” and filled out New Heights‘ excuse form reading, “Please excuse Flavor Flav from any responsibilities on Wednesday Aug. 12th at 7:00 p.m. ET. Don’t blame me, but Taylor Swift will be appearing on the New Heights podcast.” The WNBA superstar also definitely tuned into the podcast. After the episode’s premiere on YouTube — which raked in a record 1.3 million live viewers — glitched and blacked out before it was finished, Clark wrote on X, “Swifties so powerful we broke the internet.” Other famous faces put their own spin on Swift’s eye-popping Life of a Showgirl album cover, which shows the musician in a revealing bedazzled leotard while partially submerged in water. John Stamos, for one, photoshopped a picture of himself in Swift’s place on the cover, writing on Instagram, “big reputation.” More celebrities showed their support for Swift by liking her post announcing the album on Instagram, including Selena Gomez, Gracie Abrams, Ice Spice, Maren Morris, Maggie Rogers and Jack Antonoff. Those names are just a few of the countless Swifties who are bursting with excitement over the promise of new Taylor Swift music. Arriving Oct. 3, The Life of a Showgirl will mark her first album since 2024’s The Tortured Poets Department, which spent 17 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. And while TTPD was more focused on poetry-style lyrics, Swift promised on New Heights that Showgirl will mark a return to the hookiness of some of her past hits. “[The album is] a lot more upbeat, and it’s a lot more fun pop excitement,” she said on New Heights. “My main goals were melodies that were so infectious, you’re almost angry at it.” Source link

Doja Cat ‘Vie’ Album Release Date Revealed in French Trailer: Watch

Doja Cat is putting her French lessons to use, as the Grammy-winning artist revealed the release date for her upcoming Vie album. Doja posted a trailer for the project on social media on Thursday (Aug. 14), which found her leaning into cosplaying a mademoiselle while speaking French (Vie translates to Live in English). “Je sais que tu es ma vie Vie out 9/26,” she captioned the cinematic clip, positioning her album for a Sept. 26 arrival. The video finds Doja in various sophisticated outfits as she changes from Black lace to white fur and a sparkling diamond ballroom gown. One shot even finds Doja in couture in front of the Eiffel Tower during a recent trip to Paris. “You’re here?” she says while the camera pans to another version of herself. “Of course I am,” Doja replies while taking a bite of her croissant. Fans were excited to hear a firm release date for the long-awaited album, which is Doja’s first since 2023’s Scarlet. “AHH WE ARE SATTTTT,” one person wrote. While another added: “Yesss Ms. Doja Jones!!!” Earlier this month, Doja Cat teased her upcoming “Jealous Type” single, which will set the table for the album. The teaser came with a phone number for a Vie hotline, while callers were greeted by Doja playing the role of romance therapist. “Jealous Type” is slated to be released on Aug. 21 at 8 p.m. ET. Doja Cat hasn’t released any singles this year and has been tight-lipped about the project, but revealed in her V Magazine cover story in July that it’s a “pop-driven” effort. “I do want to be self-aware enough to admit the fact that this is a pop-driven project,” she said at the time. “I know that I can make pop music, and pop is just that it’s popular. It starts to become a bit of a thing that’s viewed as a sport by people who are just bystanders to it, who enjoy it, but maybe also don’t respect it or what it is, which is just music … They see it as if this is some kind of football for girls and gays.” Watch the trailer below and look for Vie on Sept. 26. Chance the Rapper Says He Hasn’t Talked to Kanye West in ‘A Long Time’

Chance the Rapper and Ye don’t really talk anymore. The Chicago rapper sat down with the New Rory & Mal podcast as he rolls out Star Line, his first album since 2019’s The Big Day, and was asked about his current relationship with Ye (formerly Kanye West) and if some of the music they’ve worked on in the past was going to be on his upcoming project. “Nah, there’s nothing from those sessions on this album,” Chance said around the 37-minute mark. “There was one that could’ve been raw.” He added: “And I was gonna say…honesty is the best policy — I haven’t talked to him in a long time. He’s one of the most influential people in my music. He was at my wedding, our kids have hung out together. I’ll always love Kanye, but just being honest, I haven’t talked to him in a while. I feel like I’ve been hella busy — I’m working on sh–. He’s obviously been busy. I be trying not to take opportunities to diss mother—-ers or add too much to the story.” Explore See latest videos, charts and news He was then asked if he would try to talk to Ye once he drops his album and things settle down a bit, and Chance gave sort of a vague answer as he tried to choose his words wisely. “The way that I think about my world is, I be thinking about my day. So, what I gotta do that day and what I’m working on for the next two weeks, maybe six months,” he tried to explain. “My relationships and how I view people as friends and stuff is just, ‘Have I loved this person? And have they ever willfully and intentionally betrayed me?’ I got friends that I haven’t talked to in five or six, seven years. It’s not like I’m anticipating some conversation, some thing where it’s like, ‘All right, now it’s my time to fix you and tell your a– what you’ve been tweaking on.’ No sh– like that.” Chance continued by pointing out that their friendship dynamic is complicated because they aren’t “necessarily peers,” and that he holds Ye and his debut album in high regard. “I’m also a lot younger than them n—as,” he explained. “There’s also different ways that people can even have friendships, because we’re not necessarily peers. My first album that I consciously wanted to have was The College Dropout. So I have a different reverence for him, or just understanding of how my life went and how it influenced things I do. I think most rappers got a rapper that was they first album, and probably from they city. So, imagine if yours was Kanye West, and imagine if you worked with them, and imagine all that sh–.” He finished his answer by saying he’s in no rush to talk to his former collaborator. “I let people be people. I’m always gonna have my own opinions and I’ma always state my opinions,” he said. “For the most part, I’ma just be me, I’ma let people be them. And so no, there’s not a time where I’m like, ‘Man, I gotta make sure I hit up Kanye before I put this album out or after I put this album out,’ or anybody.” Back in 2022, a clip surfaced online of Ye yelling at Chance while they were in the studio, and the Coloring Book rapper told The Morning Hustle radio show that he was actually there to check on Ye’s mental health, and that the experience made him “evaluate” their friendship. “I did come out there to check on my friend,” he admitted. “Me and a lot of other people still have love for Ye. But he’s human, he’s not perfect. He was obviously going through it at that time. … It made me evaluate my friendship with him, for sure. I had never been so close to him going through an episode. At the end of the day, I definitely love the dude. That’s my guy. It sucks that sometimes people can exploit a moment that is a genuine moment.” Chance the Rapper’s Star Line album drops at midnight ET (Aug. 15.) You can watch the full episode below. Source link

Lizzo Made a Song About ‘Love Island USA’ JaNa & Kenny Breakup

Lizzo recorded a breakup anthem for Love Island USA season 6 alum JaNa Craig, following her recent split with co-star Kenny Rodriguez — and Craig absolutely loves it. The Grammy-winning star took to TikTok on Tuesday to share her two cents on the matter, singing, “Hol’ on, walk with me/ When it come to my people, I don’t play, I don’t play/ Like why would Kenny play like that with JaNa?/ Type sh–, know what I’m sayin’, know what I’m sayin’.” The couple broke up last month after almost a year of dating. In a July 29-dated Instagram Story, Craig wrote, “Discovering someone you loved isn’t who you thought they were and that the relationship you thought you were building hasn’t been genuine since day one has been truly devastating.” She called him out as a “manipulative liar” in a later IG Story following his own public statement about their split, in which he wrote, “Breakups are never easy, especially in the public eye. Sometimes, despite how deeply you care for someone, you come to the hard truth that the relationship was not something that could last long-term.” While catching up with TMZ outside LAX on Wednesday, Craig said she thought the tune was too good to be true. “It’s so cute because I’m getting so much love, and for it to be from Lizzo, you know what I mean? I know a lot of people are supporting me, but when it’s your favorite celebrity supporting you…,” she said before divulging her plans to go back to her hotel and make a TikTok about the song. And she did just that, captioning the clip, “No cause @lizzo we need to knowww …. And lmk if you need me for that music video #Lizzoiloveyou.” The “Truth Hurts” singer doubled down on her support by commenting, “Always team NayNay.” Get weekly rundowns straight to your inbox Sign Up Source link

Teyana Taylor on Ending Retirement for New Album ‘Escape Room’

Billboard gives Teyana Taylor her flowers — literally — in the latest installment of our “Takes Us Out” franchise. Five years after announcing her retirement from music, Taylor returns Aug. 22 with her fourth studio album, Escape Room. The multi-faceted creative — singer-songwriter, dancer-choregorapher, video director and actress —recently dropped by Casa de Flores in Encino, California, to arrange an assortment of red roses and chat with Billboard’s Gail Mitchell. Asked what prompted the end of her musical retirement during the conversation, Taylor referenced her 2020 Billboard cover story which followed the release of her gold-certified third studio project, The Album. “When I spoke to you five years ago, it wasn’t on my terms,” she begins. “I’ve returned now in a time when I get to come back on my terms. And that was important for me because … I don’t like to be stuck in a box. I don’t want to be stuck in one room. I’m a Glade plug-in: I’m going to plug in wherever I see a socket, wherever I see an outlet. “For me,” she continues, “why only make one room smell good when you can make the whole store smell good? What do I look like just being plugged up in a bathroom? I need to be plugged in all over! I must be able to smell the fruits of my labor everywhere I go. Coming back to music and being able to do it on my terms was a big turn-on for me.” And gauging by the response from her fan base, it’s a turn-on for them too, as Taylor clears the runway for Escape Room’s impending arrival. Revealed this week, the 22 songs comprising her fourth studio album boasts features by Jill Scott, Tyla, Lucky Daye and Kaytranada, plus her daughters Rue Rose and Junie Shumpert. Complementing the songs are monologues by a cast of powerful women’s voices belonging to Taraji P. Henson, Sarah Paulson, Niecy Nash, Issa Rae and Regina King, among others. Taylor, who recently underwent emergency vocal cord surgery, had earlier trumpeted her return with the release of “Long Time” and “Bed of Roses.” Those accompanying videos, both of which feature her beau, actor Aaron Pierre, count 2.2 million and 1.2 million views, respectively, on YouTube.
